Tips for Finding H-2A Sponsorship Jobs in California
Focus on the Central Valley first
Fresno, Tulare, and Kern counties are among the highest-volume H-2A sponsoring regions in California. Targeting employers in these counties gives you the widest range of active job openings tied to active Labor Condition Applications.
Follow the seasonal crop calendar
California's H-2A demand peaks at different times by region and crop. Stone fruit harvests drive spring and summer hiring, while table grapes and citrus extend into fall. Timing your search to the relevant season increases your chances significantly.
Search verified H-2A listings on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate aggregates H-2A sponsorship jobs in California with employer and visa details included. Filtering by state and visa type helps you identify which employers are actively filing, saving time compared to searching general job boards.
Look beyond harvesting to year-round roles
Some California employers, particularly in dairy, nursery operations, and mushroom cultivation, sponsor H-2A workers for year-round positions. These roles are less seasonal and can offer more stable employment timelines than crop-specific harvesting work.
Verify the employer has filed a valid job order
Before pursuing any H-2A opportunity in California, confirm the employer has an active job order certified by the Department of Labor. The DOL's iCERT and FLAG systems list certified job orders publicly, confirming the sponsorship is legitimate and compliant.
Check if a Farm Labor Contractor is involved
Many California growers use licensed Farm Labor Contractors to manage H-2A hiring. If an FLC is sponsoring the position, verify their USDA and California licensure status before accepting an offer, as compliance records are publicly available.

Which industries in California sponsor the most H-2A visas?
Agriculture dominates H-2A visa sponsorship in California by a wide margin. The highest-volume industries include fruit and tree nut farming, vegetable and melon farming, and grape cultivation for wine and table consumption. Nursery and floriculture operations, dairy farming, and mushroom growing also sponsor H-2A workers, though in smaller numbers compared to field crop and orchard work.
Which cities in California have the most H-2A sponsorship jobs?
The majority of H-2A jobs in California are concentrated in agricultural hubs rather than major metropolitan areas. Fresno, Visalia, Bakersfield, Salinas, and Oxnard consistently see the highest volume of H-2A job orders. The Coachella Valley, including Indio and Thermal, is also a significant hiring area, particularly for date palm and table grape operations.
What types of roles typically qualify for H-2A sponsorship in California?
H-2A covers temporary and seasonal agricultural labor. In California, qualifying roles include crop harvesting workers, irrigation laborers, pruning and thinning workers, transplanting crews, farm equipment operators, and general field hands. Some positions in packing sheds and cold storage facilities directly tied to agricultural operations may also qualify, depending on how the employer structures the job order.
How do I find H-2A jobs in California that offer visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists H-2A sponsorship jobs in California with employer and visa details in one place, making it easier to identify who is actively hiring and sponsoring. You can also search the Department of Labor's FLAG system for certified job orders filed by California employers. Focusing your search on the Central Valley and Salinas Valley regions will surface the highest concentration of active postings.
Are there any California-specific considerations for H-2A workers I should know about?
California has some of the strongest agricultural labor protections in the country. H-2A workers in California are covered by state wage and hour laws in addition to federal requirements, which can affect overtime rules and rest period standards. California's Division of Labor Standards Enforcement actively enforces these protections. Employers must also comply with state housing and transportation requirements, which are often stricter than federal H-2A minimums.
