Which companies sponsor visas for restaurant general managers in California?
Large hospitality groups and hotel chains are the most active sponsors for restaurant general manager roles in California. Companies such as Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, Darden Restaurants, and Compass Group have filed sponsorship petitions for management-level food service positions. Independent restaurant groups in Los Angeles and San Francisco also sponsor, though less frequently than corporate chains with established HR and legal infrastructure.
Which visa types are most common for restaurant general manager roles in California?
The H-1B is the most commonly filed visa for restaurant general managers in California when the role is framed as a specialty occupation requiring a relevant degree in hospitality management, business administration, or a related field. The EB-3 employment-based immigrant visa is also used for permanent sponsorship. Some multinational hotel brands sponsor L-1A visas for managers transferring from overseas properties.
Which cities in California have the most restaurant general manager sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles and San Francisco account for the largest share of restaurant general manager sponsorship activity in California, driven by high concentrations of hotel dining, upscale independent restaurants, and corporate food service operations. San Diego is a secondary hub, particularly for resort and hotel-affiliated restaurant groups. Smaller but growing markets include Sacramento and Orange County, where hotel-casino and convention-center dining operations also hire at the general manager level.
How to find restaurant general manager visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate aggregates visa sponsorship jobs specifically for international candidates, including restaurant general manager roles filtered to California. Rather than sifting through general job boards and guessing which employers sponsor, Migrate Mate surfaces positions where sponsorship has been confirmed or is historically associated with the hiring employer, saving significant time for candidates navigating H-1B or EB-3 pathways.
Are there any California-specific considerations for restaurant general managers seeking visa sponsorship?
California's prevailing wage requirements under the H-1B apply statewide, and the Department of Labor sets wage levels by metropolitan area, meaning Los Angeles and San Francisco roles typically require higher offered wages than inland regions. California also has strict classification rules for managers under state labor law, which employers factor into how they structure sponsorship petitions. Candidates with hospitality management degrees from California university programs such as Cal Poly Pomona or UCSF extension have established pipelines with larger hotel and restaurant groups in the state.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored restaurant general manager jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
