Which companies sponsor visas for test engineers in California?
Apple, Intel, Qualcomm, Broadcom, Google, and NVIDIA are among the California employers with consistent H-1B filing histories for test engineer roles. Semiconductor and hardware companies in Silicon Valley and San Diego tend to sponsor at high volumes, given their reliance on specialized validation and verification talent. Contract electronics manufacturers and defense tech firms in Southern California also appear regularly in Department of Labor disclosure data for this role type.
Which visa types are most common for test engineer roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for test engineers in California, covering roles in hardware validation, software quality assurance, and embedded systems testing that require at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT frequently transition into H-1B sponsorship through California employers. The L-1B is another pathway for engineers transferring from an overseas office of a multinational company.
Which cities in California have the most test engineer sponsorship jobs?
San Jose and the broader Silicon Valley corridor, including Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, and Cupertino, account for the largest concentration of test engineer sponsorship activity in California, driven by semiconductor and consumer electronics companies headquartered there. San Diego is a secondary hub with strong demand from Qualcomm and the defense electronics sector. Los Angeles has a growing presence, particularly in aerospace testing and automotive electronics validation tied to EV development.
How to find test engineer visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to browse test engineer roles in California without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can narrow results by location, filtering for Bay Area, San Diego, or Los Angeles clusters where sponsorship activity is highest for this role. Because test engineer titles vary widely, searching related terms like validation engineer and QA engineer on Migrate Mate can surface additional relevant openings.
Are there state-specific considerations for test engineers seeking sponsorship in California?
California's prevailing wage requirements under H-1B rules are set at the metropolitan level, so wages for test engineers in San Jose or San Francisco are benchmarked against some of the higher prevailing wage levels in the country. Employers filing Labor Condition Applications must attest to meeting those wage floors, which affects which companies actively recruit internationally for these roles. California's university pipeline, including UC Berkeley, UCLA, and Stanford, also means many candidates enter sponsorship pathways through STEM OPT before converting to H-1B status.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored test engineer jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
