- Lead and execute senior-level infrastructure qualification and validation activities for GxP-relevant systems, including but not limited to Okta Single Sign-On, Active Directory, Amazon Web Services (AWS), dedicated computing environments, and infrastructure-related GxP applications.
- Provide validation oversight and support for infrastructure-related and analytical platforms (e.g., RStudio/Posit, SAS environments, Pinnacle 21, and similar systems).
- Perform hands-on execution of qualification and validation testing, including authoring and execution within Veeva Validation Management (VVM).
- Support and, where required, lead validation activities within Veeva Vault Quality, including test script authoring/execution and lifecycle maintenance.
- Support change control activities to ensure validation impact assessments are performed in a compliant manner and that regulated systems are maintained in a validated state.
- Support Deviation, Investigation, and CAPA activities, including impact assessments, root cause analysis, remediation planning, and documentation.
- Work with QA to investigate system issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement solutions.
- Develop and enhance the Arcus validation program to ensure ongoing alignment with regulatory expectations.
- Conduct periodic reviews of GxP computerized systems, and maintain the supporting process, to ensure systems remain in a validated, compliant state in accordance with applicable regulations and SOPs.
- Perform gap assessments and remediation activities, as needed.
- Ensure timely, efficient, and effective communication and interaction with internal GxP partners and external contract providers.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Life Sciences, Engineering, or a similar discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of experience in computer system validation activities in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related industry, preferably in FDA-regulated environments.
- 3+ years in a leadership or people-management capacity, including management of contract CSV personnel (onsite and/or offshore), preferred.
- Demonstrated, senior-level, hands-on experience qualifying and validating GxP-relevant IT infrastructure and enterprise systems, including cloud environments (e.g., AWS), identity and access management systems (e.g., Okta), directory services (e.g., Active Directory), and dedicated computing environments.
- Strong validation experience with infrastructure-adjacent and analytical applications, such as RStudio/Posit, SAS platforms, Pinnacle 21, or similar regulated systems.
- Experience using Veeva Vault Quality, including Veeva Validation Management.
- Proven experience supporting Deviations, Investigations, Change Controls, and CAPA actions within a regulated environment.
- Advanced working knowledge of GxP regulations and approaches to System Life Cycles (SLC) and risk-based validation (e.g., GAMP 5), as well as 21 CFR Part 11, Annex 11, and data integrity (ALCOA+) principles.
- Experience validating Quality, Regulatory, Clinical, or Analytical systems in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment strongly preferred.
- Experience qualifying and validating enterprise IT infrastructure in cloud-based and hybrid environments preferred.
- Experience validating Veeva Vault applications a plus.

Which companies sponsor visas for validation engineers in California?
California's medical device and semiconductor industries are the primary sources of validation engineer sponsorship. Companies with documented H-1B filing histories for validation engineering roles include Intuitive Surgical in Sunnyvale, Edwards Lifesciences in Irvine, Boston Scientific in Santa Clara, Lam Research in Fremont, and Abbott Laboratories across multiple California sites. Large pharmaceutical manufacturers in the San Diego corridor, including Thermo Fisher Scientific and Illumina, also sponsor regularly for validation roles in regulated environments.
Which visa types are most common for validation engineer roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for validation engineers in California, as the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field, satisfying the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for TN visa status under the engineer category. Those with extraordinary ability or exceptional research profiles in validation-heavy fields like biomedical engineering may explore O-1 visa classification, though that pathway is significantly less common.
Which cities in California have the most validation engineer sponsorship jobs?
The San Francisco Bay Area, particularly Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, San Jose, and Fremont, has the highest concentration of validation engineer sponsorship jobs, driven by semiconductor and medical device manufacturers. San Diego is a strong secondary market with a dense cluster of biotech and life sciences companies requiring process and equipment validation. Los Angeles has a smaller but active presence, primarily tied to aerospace, defense, and pharmaceutical contract manufacturing organizations.
How to find validation engineer visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it easier to identify California-based validation engineer roles where employers are actively open to sponsoring international candidates. Because validation engineering spans multiple industries in California, including medical devices, semiconductors, and biopharma, using Migrate Mate's role and location filters helps narrow results to relevant openings rather than sorting through general engineering postings that may not include sponsorship.
Are there any state-specific considerations for validation engineers seeking sponsorship in California?
California's strong presence of FDA-regulated industries means many validation engineer roles are tied to industries with strict hiring timelines and compliance requirements, which can influence how quickly employers initiate sponsorship paperwork. The state also has a large network of UC and CSU engineering programs that supply international graduates on OPT, meaning employers in California are generally familiar with sponsorship processes. Prevailing wage determinations for validation engineers in the Bay Area and San Diego are calculated at regional levels, reflecting the higher cost of living in those metro areas.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored validation engineer jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
