ABOUT CLARKS
Clarks, based in Somerset, England, has been at the forefront of innovative shoemaking since its foundation in 1825, when brothers James and Cyrus Clark made a slipper from sheepskin off-cuts. At the time it was ground-breaking: a combination of invention and craftsmanship that has remained at the heart of what the brand does now. In the Clarks archive of more than 22,000 pairs are shoes that have sparked revolutions and defined generations. From the original Clarks Desert Boot, first designed by Nathan Clark and launched in 1950, to the iconic Wallabee, each design has an instantly recognizable signature that makes it unmistakably Clarks.
Clarks believes that the principle of equality of opportunity is fundamental to the company's operations. Our long-held aim is to provide just and fair treatment for all employees. We will not discriminate on the grounds of sex, age, disability, marital status, color, race, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, or gender reassignment.
Tips for Finding H-2A Sponsorship Jobs in Connecticut
Match your occupation to DOL definitions
H-2A covers agricultural labor only. Use O*NET to confirm your target role falls under a qualifying occupation code before applying. Landscaping and nursery work qualify; general groundskeeping for non-agricultural businesses typically does not.
Target Connecticut River Valley tobacco growers
The shade-tobacco corridor between Windsor and Suffield generates the highest concentration of H-2A certifications in the state. Search for employers in Hartford County who file annually, as established growers tend to repeat certifications each season.
Verify your employer has filed a job order
Before accepting any offer, confirm the employer submitted a job order through the Connecticut Department of Labor and received DOL certification. An offer letter alone does not confirm a valid H-2A petition is in progress.
Use Migrate Mate to identify H-2A filers in Connecticut
Pull DOL Labor Condition Application disclosure data to see which Connecticut employers have certified H-2A positions and in which occupations. Migrate Mate surfaces this filing history so you can target outreach to employers with an established sponsorship track record.
Align your arrival to the certified start date
USCIS ties your entry authorization to the employment start date on the approved petition. Arriving significantly before or after that date can complicate your admission. Coordinate travel directly with your sponsoring employer once the petition is approved.
Confirm housing arrangements before departing your home country
H-2A employers in Connecticut are legally required to provide free housing for workers who travel more than 50 miles. Get written confirmation of the housing location and move-in date, since agricultural housing in the River Valley fills quickly during peak planting season.

Which industries in Connecticut sponsor the most H-2A visas?
Tobacco farming in the Connecticut River Valley drives the largest share of H-2A certifications in the state, particularly shade-grown tobacco operations in Windsor, Suffield, and South Windsor. Greenhouse, nursery, and sod production in Hartford and Tolland Counties are the next most active sectors, with smaller numbers in apple orchards and berry farms in Litchfield County.
Which cities in Connecticut have the most H-2A sponsorship jobs?
Windsor, Suffield, and Granby in Hartford County account for a disproportionate share of certified H-2A positions due to the concentration of tobacco and shade-crop operations there. Enfield and East Windsor also appear frequently in DOL certification records. New Haven County has a smaller but consistent presence tied to nursery and landscaping employers.
What types of roles typically qualify for H-2A sponsorship in Connecticut?
Qualifying roles are limited to temporary or seasonal agricultural work. In Connecticut, that most commonly means tobacco harvesting and curing labor, greenhouse planting and transplanting, nursery propagation, sod laying, and orchard picking. Roles must meet DOL's definition of agricultural labor under the Immigration and Nationality Act. General landscaping for commercial or residential properties without a direct agricultural connection generally does not qualify.
How do I find H-2A jobs in Connecticut?
Migrate Mate lets you filter job listings by visa type and state, showing Connecticut employers with verified H-2A filing history from DOL disclosure data. You can also search the OFLC Wage Search database to identify which employers received certifications in prior seasons, then contact those operations directly during their pre-season hiring window, typically January through March for spring planting roles.
Are there any Connecticut-specific rules I should know before pursuing H-2A sponsorship?
Connecticut enforces its own wage and housing standards alongside federal H-2A requirements, and the state Department of Labor coordinates with DOL on job order postings. Employers must first attempt to recruit domestic workers through the state workforce agency before a petition can be certified. Workers should also know that Connecticut winters effectively end most agricultural H-2A contracts by November, so petition periods rarely extend year-round.
