Which companies sponsor visas for investment associates in Illinois?
Several Chicago-based firms have a documented history of sponsoring work visas for investment associates, including William Blair, Baird Capital, GTCR, Morningstar, and Northern Trust. Large banks with Chicago offices such as BMO and Nuveen also sponsor regularly. Sponsorship patterns vary by firm size and deal volume, so checking LCA disclosure data on the DOL's OFLC portal can confirm which employers have filed recently.
Which visa types are most common for investment associate roles in Illinois?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for investment associates in Illinois, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Australian nationals may qualify for the E-3 visa, which has no lottery. Candidates already on OPT or STEM OPT often enter through those pathways before their employer files an H-1B visa petition.
Which cities in Illinois have the most investment associate sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the overwhelming majority of investment associate sponsorship opportunities in Illinois. The Loop, River North, and the Fulton Market corridor host the highest concentration of private equity, venture capital, and asset management firms. Evanston has a smaller presence tied to Northwestern University's finance network, but Chicago remains the clear center for this role type in the state.
How to find investment associate visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters investment associate roles specifically by visa sponsorship willingness, saving you the step of screening out employers who don't sponsor. For Illinois, you can narrow results to Chicago-area firms across private equity, asset management, and investment banking. Migrate Mate also surfaces employers with prior LCA filing history for this role category, which is a reliable signal that a firm has sponsored international candidates before.
Are there any Illinois-specific considerations for investment associate visa sponsorship?
Illinois follows federal prevailing wage rules, so employers sponsoring H-1B investment associates must pay at or above the DOL wage level for the role in the Chicago metro area. Chicago's dense university network, including University of Chicago Booth and Northwestern Kellogg, creates strong alumni pipelines that many local firms recruit through, which can benefit international students already embedded in those networks through OPT or CPT.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored investment associate jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
