Which companies in Iowa sponsor visas for technical architects?
Des Moines-based employers are the most active sponsors for technical architect roles in Iowa. Principal Financial Group, Nationwide, and EMC Insurance have filed H-1B petitions for architecture-level positions in recent years. Technology contractors and consulting firms serving Iowa's financial services sector, including regional offices of large system integrators, also sponsor technical architects regularly through the H-1B program.
Which visa types are most common for technical architect roles in Iowa?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa category for technical architects in Iowa, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. Candidates with advanced credentials may also qualify for O-1A or EB-1 classification. Intracompany transferees moving into architecture roles at Iowa offices of multinational firms sometimes use the L-1A or L-1B visa.
Which cities in Iowa have the most technical architect sponsorship jobs?
Des Moines accounts for the large majority of technical architect sponsorship activity in Iowa, driven by its concentration of financial services, insurance technology, and enterprise software employers. Cedar Rapids is the secondary market, with opportunities tied to manufacturing technology firms and agricultural data companies. Iowa City and Ames see smaller but notable activity connected to university-affiliated research institutions and technology startups.
How to find technical architect visa sponsorship jobs in Iowa?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search technical architect roles in Iowa without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. The platform surfaces openings at Iowa employers across financial services, insurance technology, and enterprise software sectors. Filtering by location and role title on Migrate Mate gives you a focused list of employers actively hiring and willing to sponsor.
Are there any Iowa-specific considerations for technical architects seeking visa sponsorship?
Iowa's prevailing wage determinations for technical architect roles are set at levels reflecting the Des Moines and Cedar Rapids metro labor markets, which differ from coastal tech hubs. Employers must certify the offered wage meets Department of Labor prevailing wage standards for the specific location. Iowa's relatively lower cost of living means total compensation packages can look different from offers in larger markets, which is worth factoring into your evaluation when comparing opportunities.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored technical architect jobs in Iowa?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
