Which companies sponsor visas for clinical social workers in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and UMass Memorial Health are among the employers with documented histories of sponsoring work visas for clinical social workers. Large academic medical centers and integrated health systems are generally more likely to sponsor than smaller outpatient private practices, which often lack the legal infrastructure to manage the petition process.
Which visa types are most common for clinical social work roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for clinical social workers in Massachusetts, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at minimum a master's degree in social work. Some positions at nonprofit hospitals or community health organizations may qualify for H-1B cap exemption, meaning those employers can file outside the annual lottery. The J-1 visa exchange visitor visa is another pathway, particularly through academic medical center exchange programs, though it typically carries a two-year home residency requirement.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most clinical social work sponsorship jobs?
Boston has the highest concentration of clinical social work visa sponsorship opportunities in Massachusetts, driven by its density of major hospital systems and academic medical centers. Worcester is a secondary hub, with UMass Memorial Health and several community behavioral health organizations active in hiring. Springfield and Cambridge also have sponsoring employers, particularly in community mental health and hospital outpatient settings.
How to find clinical social work visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S., including clinical social work roles in Massachusetts. You can filter directly by state and role type to see active sponsoring employers in the Boston area and beyond. Because clinical social work sponsorship is concentrated among larger health systems, filtering to hospital and medical center employers on Migrate Mate will surface the most relevant opportunities.
Are there state licensing or credential requirements that affect visa sponsorship for clinical social workers in Massachusetts?
Yes. Massachusetts requires clinical social workers to hold a Licensed Clinical Social Worker credential issued by the Board of Registration of Social Workers. Employers sponsoring an H-1B petition will typically require proof of LCSW licensure or eligibility as part of the hiring process. International candidates whose master's degree was earned outside the U.S. may need a credential evaluation to satisfy both licensing board requirements and the visa specialty occupation standard. Starting the licensure process early is important, as it runs parallel to, not after, visa sponsorship.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored clinical social work jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
