Working at Modal means joining one of the fastest-growing AI infrastructure organizations at an early stage, with many opportunities to grow within the company. Our team includes creators of popular open-source projects (e.g. Seaborn, Luigi), academic researchers, international olympiad medalists, and experienced engineering and product leaders with decades of experience.
The Role:
We're hiring a VP of Finance to build the finance function from the ground up as our first full-time finance hire. You'll report directly to the CEO and collaborate closely with our BizOps, GTM, and Product teams. In this role, you will:
- Build and maintain Modal's operating model, tying financial performance to company KPIs and resource allocation
- Lead all budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes, and develop the reporting infrastructure that gives leadership and the board clear, timely visibility into the health of the business
- Partner with the founders on fundraising strategy, future funding rounds, and investor relations, including financial modeling and data room preparation
- Think creatively about capital structure to optimize our balance sheet as we scale
- Build the finance team and systems from scratch, making smart decisions about what to build vs. buy vs. outsource
- Oversee accounting operations, financial close, and reporting in partnership with our Controller and external providers
- Ensure sound revenue recognition policies and maintain audit-readiness as the company scales
- Serve as a strategic thought partner to our BizOps, GTM, and Product teams on pricing, headcount planning, unit economics, and product investment decisions
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 3–5 years in a senior leadership role at a high-growth technology company
- Proven experience building or significantly scaling a finance function, including systems, processes, and team
- Deep FP&A and operating model expertise, with strong command of SaaS and infrastructure business metrics
- Experience supporting companies through venture fundraising rounds and managing institutional investor relationships
- Strong grasp of revenue recognition principles under ASC 606, particularly in usage-based or consumption-driven business models
- Demonstrated ability to partner cross-functionally and influence decisions across the organization
- Ability to work in-person in our NYC office
Bonus:
- Experience with usage-based or consumption pricing models
- Experience in product-led growth (PLG) businesses
- SQL proficiency and comfort working directly with data

Which companies sponsor visas for VP Finance roles in New York?
Large financial institutions and multinational corporations headquartered in New York are among the most active sponsors for VP Finance roles. JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, BlackRock, Morgan Stanley, and Pfizer have all filed H-1B petitions for senior finance positions. Private equity firms and global consulting practices in Midtown Manhattan also sponsor regularly, though sponsorship decisions are made case by case and are not guaranteed.
Which visa types are most common for VP Finance roles in New York?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for VP Finance roles, as the position qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in finance, accounting, or a related field. Candidates with extraordinary ability may pursue the O-1A. Intracompany transferees moving from a foreign affiliate to a New York office may qualify for the L-1A, which applies to managers and executives.
Which cities in New York have the most VP Finance sponsorship jobs?
Manhattan, specifically Midtown and the Financial District, accounts for the overwhelming majority of VP Finance sponsorship opportunities in New York. Wall Street's concentration of investment banks, asset managers, and financial services firms makes it the primary hiring hub. Buffalo and Albany have smaller markets tied to regional banking and state government-adjacent finance roles, but sponsorship activity there is substantially lower than in New York City.
How to find vp finance visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates searching for visa sponsorship jobs, including VP Finance roles in New York. You can filter by role and state to see positions where employers have a documented history of sponsoring work visas. Because VP Finance is a senior role, targeting employers in financial services, pharmaceuticals, and technology headquartered in New York City gives you the most relevant results.
What should international candidates know about VP Finance sponsorship in New York?
New York's prevailing wage requirements for H-1B positions at the VP Finance level are set by the Department of Labor and reflect the high cost of operating in the city, meaning employers must pay the determined prevailing wage for the role and location. VP Finance roles typically fall under higher wage tiers. Candidates should also note that H-1B sponsorship is subject to the annual lottery for cap-subject petitions, which affects timing and planning.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored vp finance jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
