Which companies in Texas sponsor visas for software applications engineers?
Dell Technologies, Texas Instruments, Oracle, Amazon, and Apple all maintain engineering offices in Texas and have documented histories of sponsoring H-1B visas for software applications engineers. Austin's tech corridor has also produced a number of mid-size software companies that sponsor regularly. Checking Department of Labor LCA disclosure data is the most reliable way to verify a specific employer's sponsorship history.
Which visa types are most common for software applications engineer roles in Texas?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software applications engineers in Texas, given that the role consistently meets the specialty occupation standard requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. F-1 graduates working in STEM fields can use OPT or STEM OPT extension as a bridge. Canadians and Mexicans may also qualify for TN status under the engineer category.
Which cities in Texas have the most software applications engineer sponsorship jobs?
Austin leads the state for software applications engineer sponsorship activity, with a concentration of both large tech employers and high-growth startups. Dallas and its suburbs, particularly Plano and Irving, host major corporate technology campuses. Houston has a smaller but active tech sector, particularly tied to energy technology and healthcare software. San Antonio is a growing market, partly driven by cybersecurity and defense contractors.
How to find software applications engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Texas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse software applications engineer roles in Texas without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. Searching by city, such as Austin or Dallas, helps narrow results to where hiring is most concentrated. Migrate Mate also surfaces employer sponsorship patterns, which helps you prioritize applications toward companies with an established track record.
Are there any state-specific considerations for software applications engineers pursuing sponsorship in Texas?
Texas has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage calculations and total compensation comparisons when evaluating offers. The state's large university system, including UT Austin and Texas A&M, creates a strong local pipeline of engineering talent, meaning employers often have established international hiring processes. Austin's rapid growth has also increased demand for experienced engineers, which can work in favor of internationally trained candidates with specialized skills.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software applications engineer jobs in Texas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
