Tips for Finding H-2B Sponsorship Jobs in West Virginia
Verify your role qualifies before applying
H-2B covers temporary nonagricultural positions only. Use O*NET to confirm your target occupation is classified outside agriculture, then check whether the role is seasonal, peak-load, or intermittent. West Virginia resort and forestry roles commonly meet this standard.
Target employers with established H-2B histories
Resorts like the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs and amusement operations in the Eastern Panhandle file H-2B petitions on recurring annual cycles. Employers with multi-year filing histories have existing DOL and USCIS compliance infrastructure, which reduces processing delays for you.
Search verified H-2B employers on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate surfaces West Virginia employers with confirmed H-2B Labor Condition Application filing history, so you're contacting companies that have already cleared DOL's temporary need certification. Filter by industry and region to focus on active sponsors in the Greenbrier Valley or Eastern Panhandle.
Confirm the employer filed before the cap closed
H-2B visas are capped annually, split across two half-year allotments. If a West Virginia employer's start date falls in the second half of the fiscal year, confirm DOL received their petition before that half-year cap was exhausted. USCIS publishes cap count updates you can reference directly.
Get your documents certified before the season starts
West Virginia's peak H-2B hiring window for hospitality and forestry runs spring through early fall. Have your passport validity, prior visa records, and any foreign credential translations ready at least three months before your target start date to avoid delays in consular scheduling.
Understand the three-year cumulative limit on status
H-2B status can be extended in one-year increments but caps out at three consecutive years. After that, you must leave the U.S. for at least three months before a new H-2B period begins. Plan your West Virginia employment timeline around this reset requirement from the outset.

Which industries in West Virginia sponsor the most H-2B visas?
Hospitality and resort operations account for the largest share of H-2B sponsorship in West Virginia, driven by destination properties like the Greenbrier and seasonal lodges in the Potomac Highlands. Landscaping and groundskeeping, forestry services, and amusement and recreation operators across the Eastern Panhandle also file H-2B petitions on regular seasonal cycles.
Which cities in West Virginia have the most H-2B sponsorship jobs?
White Sulphur Springs and the surrounding Greenbrier Valley generate the highest concentration of H-2B filings in the state due to resort and hospitality demand. Harpers Ferry and the Eastern Panhandle corridor see consistent landscaping and recreation-sector filings. Morgantown and Charleston have smaller but active pools of H-2B employers in facilities and outdoor services.
What types of roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship in West Virginia?
Qualifying H-2B roles in West Virginia are typically seasonal and nonagricultural. Common positions include housekeepers, groundskeepers, landscapers, forest technicians, ride operators at amusement facilities, and food service workers at resort properties. The employer must demonstrate to DOL that the need is temporary and that no qualified U.S. workers are available for those specific positions.
How do I find H-2B jobs in West Virginia?
Migrate Mate filters job listings by visa type and state, surfacing West Virginia employers with verified H-2B filing history so you're not cold-contacting companies unfamiliar with sponsorship. Cross-reference employer names against DOL's public disclosure data to confirm they've filed for H-2B certification in prior seasons before submitting your application.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B jobs in West Virginia?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
