How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Poker Dealer
Target casino resort chains over local cardrooms
Major operators like MGM, Caesars, and Station Casinos have established H-1B programs and legal teams familiar with gaming industry sponsorship requirements.
Emphasize technical game knowledge beyond basic dealing
Highlight expertise in tournament structures, side bet mathematics, or electronic table game systems to strengthen the specialty occupation argument.
Focus on supervisory or training positions
Pit supervisor, dealer trainer, or floor operations roles are more likely to meet specialty occupation requirements than entry-level dealing positions.
Document relevant education in mathematics or hospitality
A degree in mathematics, statistics, hospitality management, or business administration helps demonstrate the specialized knowledge requirement for visa approval.
Consider states with major gaming hubs
Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and California have the highest concentration of large casino operators with established visa sponsorship programs.
Apply during casino expansion periods
New casino openings or major renovations often create multiple sponsored positions as operators need experienced staff to train local hires.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do poker dealers need a bachelor's degree for visa sponsorship?
For H-1B sponsorship, yes. The position must qualify as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in a specific field like mathematics, statistics, or hospitality management. Entry-level dealing positions rarely meet this requirement, but supervisory roles often do.
Which casinos are most likely to sponsor poker dealers?
Major casino resort chains like MGM Resorts, Caesars Entertainment, and Station Casinos have established H-1B programs. Corporate gaming companies and tribal casinos with large operations are also viable options, particularly for management-track positions.
Can poker dealers get green cards through their casino employer?
Yes, through the PERM labor certification process, typically in the EB-3 category. However, the position must demonstrate that no qualified U.S. workers are available, which can be challenging for standard dealing roles but more feasible for specialized positions.
What visa alternatives exist for international poker dealers?
The O-1 visa is possible for dealers with extraordinary ability in tournament play or training. L-1 visas work for transfers within international casino companies. TN status may apply for Canadians or Mexicans in qualifying management roles.
How competitive is H-1B sponsorship for poker dealers?
Standard dealing positions face challenges meeting specialty occupation requirements. Success rates are higher for roles emphasizing mathematical analysis, tournament operations, or dealer training programs that require specialized education and expertise beyond basic game knowledge.
What is the prevailing wage requirement for sponsored Poker Dealer jobs?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
