Welder Fitter Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a welder fitter in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license for welder fitters, but employers in the petrochemical and industrial sectors expect AWS D1.1 or ASME Section IX certification before hiring. Most candidates complete a welding technology program at a Texas community college such as Lee College, San Jacinto College, or Texas State Technical College, then build fitting skills through an apprenticeship or entry-level shop position before moving into combination welder fitter roles.
How much do welder fitters make in Texas?
Welder fitters in Texas earn a median of about $53,340 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,380 for the lowest 10% to over $80,240 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire welder fitters in Texas?
Employers hiring welder fitters in Texas right now include Johnson Controls, Trinity Industries, and NOV, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's dense concentration of refineries, LNG terminals, and fabrication yards along the Gulf Coast means large industrial contractors and owner-operators post welder fitter openings consistently throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most welder fitter jobs?
Longview, San Antonio, and Brenham have the most welder fitter openings in Texas right now. Houston leads because of its refinery corridor, ship channel fabrication yards, and the headquarters presence of major EPC contractors, while Beaumont and Corpus Christi draw steady demand from nearby petrochem plants and LNG export terminals that run continuous turnaround and capital project work.
Are there remote welder fitter jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Welder fitting is a hands-on trade requiring physical presence on the shop floor or job site, so almost all openings require on-site attendance. About 0% of welder fitter openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those few roles are typically in quality inspection, welding coordination, or estimating rather than active fitting and welding work.
How can I get hired as a welder fitter in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a welding technology certificate from a Texas technical college followed by an application to a fabrication shop helper or tack welder role. Large contractors like Turner Industries and KBR run structured apprenticeship and craft training programs at Texas Gulf Coast facilities where candidates without full welder fitter experience can start as fitter helpers. Holding any AWS entry-level credential, such as the Certified Welder credential, gives candidates a meaningful edge in initial screening.
Where can I find and apply to welder fitter jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to welder fitter jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas locations. Search the listings, find roles that fit your experience and the area you want to work in, and apply directly to the employer.
