Industrial Electrician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an industrial electrician in Texas?
Becoming an industrial electrician in Texas requires obtaining a license through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, known as TDLR. Most paths begin with a registered apprenticeship through a trade school or union program, where you log the required hours of on-the-job training alongside classroom instruction. After completing the apprenticeship, candidates sit for the Journeyman Electrician exam administered by TDLR before pursuing industrial roles.
How much do industrial electricians make in Texas?
Industrial electricians in Texas earn a median of about $58,570 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $37,920 for the lowest 10% to over $80,300 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire industrial electricians in Texas?
Employers hiring industrial electricians in Texas right now include Apple, TIC - The Industrial Company, and Shermco Industries, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's deep concentration of petrochemical plants, refineries, and heavy manufacturers means that large industrial contractors and energy companies consistently post openings across the state year-round.
Which Texas cities have the most industrial electrician jobs?
Austin, Abilene, and Richardson have the most industrial electrician openings in Texas. Houston's density of petrochemical plants and energy infrastructure drives the largest share of postings, while Dallas-Fort Worth's manufacturing and data center growth sustains strong demand, and San Antonio's expanding industrial corridors and military installation support add a steady volume of openings outside the two major metros.
Are there remote industrial electrician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Industrial electrician work is fundamentally hands-on and site-dependent, so most roles require a physical presence on the plant floor or job site. About 5% of industrial electrician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve project coordination, estimating, or technical training roles rather than direct electrical installation and maintenance work.
How can I get hired as an industrial electrician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a registered apprenticeship program, with Texas unions like the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and TDLR-approved trade schools offering structured programs that pay while you learn. Large industrial employers and contractors across Houston's petrochemical corridor regularly hire apprentice electricians and electrical helpers, treating those roles as the starting point for long-term placement. A completed vocational or community college program in electrical technology and a TDLR Apprentice Electrician registration give candidates a measurable advantage over unregistered applicants.
Where can I find and apply to industrial electrician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to industrial electrician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the available roles, identify the ones that fit your experience and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
