Mechanic Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a mechanic in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued mechanic license for most automotive or diesel roles, so the path typically starts with completing a vocational or technical program at a community college or trade school, then pursuing ASE certification in your specialty. Employers across Texas treat ASE credentials as the standard proof of competency. For aircraft mechanics, a Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant certificate is required regardless of state.
Which companies hire mechanics in Texas?
Employers hiring mechanics in Texas right now include Apple, United Rentals, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of freight carriers, automotive dealerships, and aviation operators means mechanic openings appear consistently across the state year-round.
Which Texas cities have the most mechanic jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas have the most mechanic openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its port activity, petrochemical fleet operations, and aviation hubs, while Dallas supports a dense network of commercial trucking and dealership groups, and San Antonio draws steady demand from Joint Base San Antonio and its surrounding logistics corridor.
Are there remote mechanic jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 7% of mechanic openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, since most mechanic work requires physical access to vehicles or equipment. The roles that do allow remote work tend to be technical support, warranty review, or service advisor positions rather than hands-on repair.
How can I get hired as a mechanic in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an apprenticeship or lube technician role at a dealership or fleet shop, where employers like large Texas Ford and Chevrolet dealer groups regularly bring on trainees. Community colleges such as Austin Community College and Houston Community College offer automotive technology programs that qualify graduates for entry positions. Earning even one ASE Student Certification before applying gives candidates a clear edge over those with no credentials.
Where can I find and apply to mechanic jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to mechanic jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas locations. Find roles that match your specialty and experience level and apply directly to the employers posting them.
