Maintenance Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a maintenance technician in Texas?
Texas does not require a statewide general maintenance license, but specific skills demand credentials. HVAC work on refrigerants requires EPA 608 certification, and any electrical work beyond basic repairs typically requires a Texas Electrical Contractor or Journeyman license issued through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Most employers also expect a high school diploma or GED plus vocational training or an apprenticeship through a local community college or trade program.
How much do maintenances make in Texas?
Maintenances in Texas earn a median of about $46,670 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $30,950 for the lowest 10% to over $74,220 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire maintenances in Texas?
Employers hiring maintenances in Texas right now include United Rentals, Herc Rentals, and Walmart, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large industrial base, sprawling multifamily housing market, and concentration of corporate campuses and distribution centers keep demand for qualified maintenance workers consistently high across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most maintenance jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin are the Texas cities with the most maintenance openings. Houston leads because of its massive petrochemical, manufacturing, and commercial real estate sectors, Dallas-Fort Worth follows with its dense concentration of corporate campuses and logistics warehouses, and San Antonio's steady growth in multifamily housing and military installations drives consistent demand in that market as well.
Are there remote maintenance jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Maintenance work is fundamentally hands-on and tied to physical facilities, so most openings require an on-site presence. About 2% of maintenance openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are typically administrative or supervisory roles such as facilities coordinators or maintenance managers overseeing multiple properties from a central office.
How can I get hired as a maintenance technician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a maintenance helper or groundskeeper role with large Texas apartment management companies like Greystar or Allied Orion Group, which regularly hire people with no prior maintenance experience and provide on-the-job training. Completing an EPA 608 prep course at a Texas community college gives candidates a measurable credential edge. Many Texas employers also hire from building porter and janitorial roles, treating those as internal pipelines into maintenance technician positions.
Where can I find and apply to maintenance jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to maintenance jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to each employer through the listing.
