Control Electrician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a control electrician in Texas?
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation issues the Journeyman Electrician license that most employers require, and candidates must pass the state exam after completing an approved apprenticeship or accumulating documented field hours. Many control electricians in Texas begin through a four-year apprenticeship with the Independent Electrical Contractors or IBEW chapters active in Houston and Dallas, pairing classroom instruction in PLC systems and instrumentation with supervised on-the-job work.
How much do control electricians make in Texas?
Control electricians in Texas earn a median of about $58,570 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $37,920 for the lowest 10% to over $80,300 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire control electricians in Texas?
Employers hiring control electricians in Texas right now include Johnson Controls, Prime Controls, and Rogers, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's density of petrochemical plants along the Gulf Coast and large advanced-manufacturing campuses in the Dallas-Fort Worth corridor keeps demand consistent across a wide range of industrial operators and systems integrators.
Which Texas cities have the most control electrician jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin account for the largest share of control electrician openings in Texas as of June 2026. Houston's concentration of refineries, chemical plants, and energy infrastructure drives the highest volume, while Dallas-Fort Worth's advanced-manufacturing base and San Antonio's growing industrial corridor generate steady demand outside the Gulf Coast.
Are there remote control electrician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 8% of control electrician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of the work. The portions most suited to remote arrangements are PLC program development, off-site system design review, and technical documentation, while physical installation, commissioning, and on-site troubleshooting require a presence at the facility.
How can I get hired as a control electrician in Texas with little or no experience?
Enrolling in an apprenticeship through an IBEW or Independent Electrical Contractors chapter in Houston or Dallas is the most realistic entry path, since these programs pay while you train and lead directly to journeyman-level roles. Large Texas industrial employers and systems integrators also hire entry-level instrumentation technician aides who transition into control work over time. Earning a TDLR-recognized electrical apprentice registration and completing coursework in PLC fundamentals through a Texas community college gives candidates a concrete edge over applicants with no credentials.
Where can I find and apply to control electrician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to control electrician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to each employer through the listing.
