Gas Plumber Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a gas plumber in Texas?
To become a gas plumber in Texas, you must obtain a license through the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. The path starts with registering as a plumber's apprentice, accumulating the required hours of hands-on experience under a licensed master plumber, and passing the relevant journeyman or master plumber exam. Texas requires all practicing plumbers, including those working on gas lines, to hold a current state-issued license before performing plumbing work independently.
How much do gas plumbers make in Texas?
Gas plumbers in Texas earn a median of about $59,840 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,270 for the lowest 10% to over $81,890 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire gas plumbers in Texas?
Employers hiring gas plumbers in Texas right now include ExxonMobil, DTE Energy, and Citi, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large natural gas distribution network and ongoing residential and commercial construction activity keep demand from both utility companies and mechanical contractors consistently high throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most gas plumber jobs?
Houston, Spring, and Needville have the most gas plumber openings in Texas. Houston drives the largest share of demand due to its scale as an energy industry hub and its volume of commercial and industrial construction, while Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio reflect rapid residential growth and the presence of regional utility operations that require ongoing service and installation staffing.
Are there remote gas plumber jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Gas plumbing is inherently hands-on work performed at residential, commercial, or industrial job sites, so the vast majority of openings require full on-site presence. About 14% of gas plumber openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those roles typically involve estimating, project coordination, or supervisory functions rather than direct installation or service work.
How can I get hired as a gas plumber in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is registering as an apprentice with the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners and applying directly to residential plumbing contractors or utility companies in Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, or San Antonio that run structured apprenticeship programs. Large Texas contractors and Atmos Energy area operations regularly bring on apprentices. Candidates coming from adjacent roles such as HVAC helper, pipefitter's assistant, or general construction laborer have a strong footing, and completing a vocational plumbing program at a Texas community college strengthens any application.
Where can I find and apply to gas plumber jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to gas plumber jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
