Hvac Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a hvac engineer in Texas?
To work as a hvac engineer in Texas, you typically need a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and licensure through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. The path starts with passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam to become an Engineer-in-Training, accumulating qualifying experience under a licensed PE, and then passing the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam to earn a full Professional Engineer license. Many Texas employers also value ASHRAE membership and certifications in energy modeling or building automation.
Which companies hire hvac engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring hvac engineers in Texas right now include Johnson Controls, ENFRA, and Cushman & Wakefield, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's scale of commercial development, industrial plant operations, and public institution construction keeps a broad range of mechanical engineering firms and owner-operators actively recruiting throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most hvac engineer jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio have the most hvac engineer openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its density of industrial facilities, petrochemical plants, and large healthcare and higher-education campuses, while Dallas draws demand from commercial high-rise construction and corporate campuses, and San Antonio's steady institutional and military installation base keeps a consistent pipeline of openings across all experience levels.
Are there remote hvac engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Much of an hvac engineer's work involves site visits, coordination with contractors, and on-site commissioning that cannot be done remotely. About 5% of hvac engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to cover tasks such as energy modeling, specifications writing, and design review that can be handled off-site.
How can I get hired as a hvac engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for an engineer-in-training or junior mechanical engineer role at a mid-size Texas MEP firm, where new graduates work directly under licensed PEs on commercial or institutional projects. Large Texas-based engineering employers such as Jacobs and AECOM run structured associate or rotational programs that onboard graduates without prior industry experience. Completing your FE exam before graduating gives you a clear edge, and internships at Texas facilities management departments or construction firms are the most common way to convert a degree into a first full-time offer.
Where can I find and apply to hvac engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to hvac engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Search the listings, identify the roles that match your experience and target location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
