ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The assistant coach is responsible for supporting all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division III men’s and women’s swimming and diving program. The assistant coach assists the head coach in student recruitment and retention; coaches student athletes and fosters their skill development; assists in coaching plans and implementation at practices and competitions; provides for students’ safety, health and wellbeing; complies with NCAA, and university policies; provides sound fiscal management; assists in equipment oversight, scheduling, travel planning, and summer camps; assists in off-season programs and athlete development; and assists in program communication and fundraising efforts with the Head Coach. The assistant coach will work with the head coach to build a shared vision, work collaboratively with the Office of Admissions, build and retain a diverse and talented team, foster good sportsmanship and a climate of respect, and provide an environment that supports students in achieving their athletic, academic and life goals.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor’s degree and demonstrated effectiveness playing and/or coaching swimming and diving is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A Master’s degree
- College coaching experience
- Participation at the collegiate level
Required qualifications include:
- Excellent organization, oral and written communication skills
- An appreciation for the philosophy of the NCAA Division III
- Strong program management skills
- The ability to recruit and retain qualified and talented student athletes
- A demonstrated commitment to students’ athletic and academic success
- The demonstrated ability to build, motivate, and retain a diverse, inclusive, successful team with sensitivity to individuals of all cultural backgrounds
- The capacity to be a visible and engaging leader
- The successful candidate will demonstrate an appreciation for the mission and value of a public liberal arts college, be self-directed and motivated, work with integrity, and bring skills and abilities needed to advance Cougar swimming and diving, the athletic programs, and the University.
COMPENSATION
This is a 75%, 10-month, annually renewable coaching appointment. The position carries a $31,010 - $32,500 annual salary, with a comprehensive benefit package. This position is integrated with the Regional Fitness Center (RFC), a separate entity that is connected to the Cougar Sport Center. The RFC offers an additional 10 hour/week position as Aquatic Coordinator.
