Associate Scientist Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a associate scientist job in Boston?
The strongest path into associate scientist roles in Boston runs through the Longwood Medical Area and Kendall Square, where biopharma, biotech, and cell and gene therapy companies concentrate most of their entry and junior hiring. Candidates who have hands-on lab experience in assay development, molecular biology, or analytical chemistry stand out. Targeting contract research organizations and mid-size biotech firms is practical because they hire continuously and promote from within.
Which companies hire associate scientists in Boston?
Companies currently hiring associate scientists in Boston include Strand Therapeutics, Bevi, and Benchling, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's market skews heavily toward biopharma and biotech employers, ranging from large established firms in the Longwood corridor to early-stage startups clustered around Kendall Square and the Seaport.
Are there remote associate scientist jobs in Boston?
Yes, though with limits: associate scientist roles that require bench work, laboratory instrumentation, or on-site sample handling are almost entirely in-person. About 14% of associate scientist openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be data-heavy or regulatory affairs-adjacent positions. Bioinformatics and clinical data science tracks within Boston's research institutions offer the most flexibility.
How can I get a associate scientist job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Boston is through a co-op, research internship, or temporary lab technician role at one of the Longwood Medical Area hospitals or a Kendall Square biotech. Boston's concentration of academic medical centers and research institutes means associate-level openings regularly go to candidates with strong thesis or co-op lab experience rather than full professional records. Contract staffing firms that specialize in life sciences place a high volume of entry-level candidates across the city and are worth targeting directly.
Which industries hire the most associate scientists in Boston?
Most associate scientist openings in Boston sit in Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, Food & Beverage, and Science & Research, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's dense cluster of research hospitals, biopharma headquarters, and cell and gene therapy startups in Kendall Square and Longwood drives consistently high demand across those sectors.
