Mid Level Automation Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level automation engineer job?
Position your experience around ownership, not just contribution. Highlight systems you built or redesigned, bugs you caught before production, and decisions you made without being prompted. Employers at this level want engineers who can take a project from requirements to delivery independently. Tailor your resume to show scope and impact, not just a list of tools you have used.
Which companies hire mid level automation engineers?
Companies hiring mid level automation engineers right now include D.A. Davidson Companies, Apple, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide range of employers, from large enterprises building out QA and DevOps functions to mid-size technology and manufacturing firms scaling their release pipelines.
Are there remote mid level automation engineer jobs?
Yes, remote and hybrid options are common at this level. About 32% of mid level automation engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the work, writing scripts, reviewing pipelines, and running test suites, can be done entirely off-site. On-site roles still exist, particularly in manufacturing and regulated industries.
How do I move up to a mid level automation engineer role?
The path from entry level to mid level is built on deeper ownership over time. Start by moving from executing assigned tasks to proposing and owning improvements to existing test or automation frameworks. Demonstrate measurable impact, reduced test cycle times, fewer escaped defects, faster deployments. Taking the lead on even one significant project and mentoring a newer colleague signals the readiness employers look for at this level.
Which industries hire the most mid level automation engineers?
Mid Level automation engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Manufacturing, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they operate complex, high-volume systems where reliable automated testing and deployment pipelines directly affect product quality, compliance, and speed to market.
