Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) builds GPU platforms for demanding AI, machine learning, and high-performance computing workloads. The Raw Metal Cloud (RMC) team develops the software that manages infrastructure from hardware onboarding and inventory through provisioning, validation, rack certification, and customer handoff. We are seeking a Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer to lead the design and delivery of distributed services for data-center telemetry, device management, and hardware lifecycle automation. You will define how these services collect and interpret infrastructure signals, securely manage devices, and coordinate reliable remediation across a growing fleet. This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will turn ambiguous requirements into practical architectures, lead initiatives spanning multiple services and teams, and remain directly involved in implementation and production operations. Your work will improve infrastructure readiness, reduce operational effort, and increase the predictability of GPU capacity delivery.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead architecture and implementation for telemetry ingestion, processing, storage, and integration with monitoring platforms.
- Define service boundaries, APIs, data models, and integration patterns across heterogeneous infrastructure devices.
- Design secure workflows for device onboarding, configuration, certificate lifecycle management, health assessment, and automated repair.
- Establish approaches for distributed state management, retries, idempotency, backpressure, fault isolation, and recovery.
- Define service reliability and performance goals; build the observability, validation, and deployment safeguards needed to meet them.
- Lead complex production investigations and drive lasting improvements to service resilience and operational efficiency.
- Partner with hardware, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to resolve dependencies and deliver capabilities across data-center deployments.
- Lead design and code reviews, mentor engineers, and improve engineering standards while contributing production code.
Required qualifications:
- Must be able & willing to work onsite in Nashville, TN. Relocation assistance available.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial ownership of production distributed systems.
- Strong hands-on development skills in Java, Python, or a comparable backend language.
- Demonstrated experience designing and operating scalable, highly available services and APIs.
- Strong understanding of concurrency, distributed state, asynchronous processing, failure recovery, and data consistency.
- Experience designing data models and selecting storage approaches based on throughput, latency, retention, and reliability requirements.
- Practical knowledge of Linux, networking, secure service communication, and authentication.
- Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives from requirements and architecture through implementation and production delivery.
- Strong technical judgment, cross-team communication, and experience mentoring engineers.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience designing telemetry or observability platforms for large infrastructure fleets.
- Familiarity with time-series systems, event-driven architectures, and high-volume device data processing.
- Experience with ILOM, Redfish, gNMI, MQTT, or comparable hardware management technologies.
- Experience designing PKI, mutual TLS, and automated certificate provisioning and rotation.
- Knowledge of data-center power, thermal, and cooling infrastructure or GPU hardware lifecycle management.
- Experience building safe automated remediation, workflow orchestration, and device management systems.
- Experience with OCI or another cloud platform and operational tools built with React and TypeScript.

Automation Engineer Jobs in Nashville: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a automation engineer job in Nashville?
Focus on Nashville's strongest hiring sectors: automotive-adjacent manufacturing along the I-65 corridor, healthcare device and operations firms clustered in Midtown and Brentwood, and logistics automation companies near the airport and MetroCenter. Candidates who combine PLC programming with experience on conveyor or robotic systems stand out locally. Networking through the Nashville Technology Council and local manufacturing associations also opens doors that online applications alone do not.
Which companies hire automation engineers in Nashville?
Nashville automation engineer roles are posted by Wesco, Oracle, and Amazon and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Nashville's mix of large healthcare systems, regional manufacturers, and growing logistics operators means openings appear across both corporate headquarters and plant-floor environments.
Are there remote automation engineer jobs in Nashville?
Yes, though it depends heavily on the role: hands-on controls and robotics positions require on-site presence, while systems integration, automation programming review, and project management tasks can run remotely. About 0% of automation engineer openings tied to Nashville are remote or hybrid as of November 2026. The most remote-friendly work tends to sit with software-side automation and SCADA configuration rather than physical equipment commissioning.
How can I get a automation engineer job in Nashville with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Nashville is through a technician or controls support role at one of the region's mid-size manufacturers or distribution centers, where hands-on exposure to PLCs and HMI systems builds a practical foundation fast. Community college programs at Nashville State and Volunteer State feed directly into local employer pipelines. Internships with Nashville-area healthcare device companies or logistics firms frequently convert to full-time automation roles for candidates who show mechanical aptitude and initiative on the floor.
Which industries hire the most automation engineers in Nashville?
The sectors hiring the most automation engineers in Nashville are Retail, Manufacturing, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026.
