Automotive Glass Technician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a automotive glass technician in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license specifically for automotive glass technicians, so entry typically starts with on-the-job training through an employer or a vocational program at a Texas community college covering auto body or collision repair. Most employers prefer candidates who hold or are working toward Auto Glass Safety Council certification, which demonstrates competency in installation standards. Completing a structured apprenticeship with a shop or national chain is the most direct path to full-time employment.
How much do automotive glass technicians make in Texas?
Automotive glass technicians in Texas earn a median of about $46,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $34,190 for the lowest 10% to over $61,360 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire automotive glass technicians in Texas?
Employers hiring automotive glass technicians in Texas right now include Glass America and Caliber Collision, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large vehicle population and frequent hail activity keep national chains and regional independents staffed year-round, with consistent openings across both retail shop and mobile service positions.
Which Texas cities have the most automotive glass technician jobs?
Abilene, Amarillo, and Dallas have the most automotive glass technician openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston dominate because of their sheer vehicle density, major hail corridors, and the regional headquarters or distribution hubs that national glass repair chains operate there, while San Antonio's large military vehicle fleet and steady population growth support steady demand in that market as well.
Are there remote automotive glass technician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 0% of automotive glass technician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that the core work is hands-on and performed on-site at a shop, dealership, or customer location. The portions of the role most compatible with remote work are customer scheduling, parts ordering coordination, and insurance claims processing for technicians moving into supervisory or dispatch functions.
How can I get hired as a automotive glass technician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to a shop assistant or automotive detailer role at a Texas Safelite or Caliber location, both of which run structured on-the-job training programs that transition helpers into full technicians. Community colleges like Houston Community College and Dallas College offer auto body and collision repair courses that provide foundational skills and make candidates more competitive. Earning even a basic Auto Glass Safety Council certification before applying signals seriousness to Texas hiring managers and can offset a thin work history.
Where can I find and apply to automotive glass technician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to automotive glass technician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers hiring now. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly through the listings.
