Tower Technician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tower technician in Texas?
Most Texas employers require candidates to complete a recognized tower climbing and rescue course, such as those offered by NATE-affiliated training centers, before their first site assignment. Texas does not issue a separate state license for tower technicians, so the path runs through NATE certification, on-the-job training under a crew lead, and eventually OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 construction certification. Community colleges in Houston and Dallas also offer telecommunications or construction technology programs that provide a useful foundation.
How much do tower technicians make in Texas?
Tower technicians in Texas earn a median of about $77,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $43,700 for the lowest 10% to over $98,840 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tower technicians in Texas?
Employers hiring tower technicians in Texas right now include Integrated Power Services, Saber Power Services, and Aggreko, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's dense rural coverage gaps and active 5G densification projects keep large wireless infrastructure contractors and carrier vendors recruiting consistently across the state year-round.
Which Texas cities have the most tower technician jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas have the most tower technician openings in Texas. Houston's concentration of broadcast facilities and petrochemical communication infrastructure drives heavy demand there, while Dallas and San Antonio serve as regional dispatch hubs for carriers and tower management companies operating across the Texas grid and into surrounding states.
Are there remote tower technician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Tower technician work is fundamentally hands-on and site-dependent, so most roles require physical presence at tower locations. About 20% of tower technician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to be project coordination, dispatch, or RF planning roles rather than field climbing assignments.
How can I get hired as a tower technician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a ground crew or tower helper position with a regional tower contractor, where you assist experienced climbers, learn rigging basics, and accumulate documented site hours. Texas-based infrastructure companies operating out of Houston and Dallas regularly bring on helpers willing to complete NATE Level 1 climb training on their own time. Transitioning from a construction laborer, electrical apprentice, or roofing crew role is also a common route, since comfort with heights and physical site work transfers directly and gets resumes past initial screening.
Where can I find and apply to tower technician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to tower technician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings from employers actively hiring. Find the roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to each one.
