Entry Level Back-End Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level back-end engineer job?
Employers hiring at the entry level look for candidates who can demonstrate working knowledge through projects, internships, or open-source contributions. A GitHub portfolio showing real API builds, database work, or server-side logic gives hiring managers something concrete to evaluate. Bootcamp graduates and self-taught candidates compete well when their portfolio reflects the languages and frameworks listed in job postings, such as Python, Java, Node.js, or SQL.
Which companies hire entry level back-end engineers?
Companies hiring entry level back-end engineers right now include Rippling, CVS Health, and TikTok, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide range of employers, including startups building engineering teams from the ground up, mid-size technology companies with structured new graduate programs, and large enterprises that run rotational or apprenticeship tracks for junior engineers.
Are there remote entry level back-end engineer jobs?
Yes, remote and hybrid options exist at the entry level, though on-site roles are also common for new engineers who benefit from in-person mentorship. About 32% of entry level back-end engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, giving candidates flexibility to apply outside their immediate metro area and broaden their search to employers hiring nationally.
Are these new grad back-end engineer jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior back-end engineer roles alongside other entry level positions. A posting is new-grad friendly when it explicitly welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internships or academic projects in place of professional history, or lists a portfolio or GitHub profile as a substitute for a long resume. Filtering for those signals helps new grads identify roles suited to their stage.
Which industries hire the most entry level back-end engineers?
Entry Level back-end engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Banking & Financial Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors tend to drive hiring at the junior level because they are expanding engineering headcount quickly and rely on back-end infrastructure, data pipelines, and APIs to support products that scale, making entry level hires a practical investment for growing teams.
