Entry Level Security Software Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level security software engineer job?
Employers hiring at this level look for hands-on evidence over years of experience. A portfolio showing secure coding projects, CTF competition results, or a relevant internship gives you a concrete edge. Familiarity with common vulnerability types, secure development practices, and at least one scripting language rounds out a strong entry level application. Certifications like Security+ can also help signal foundational knowledge.
Which companies hire entry level security software engineers?
Companies hiring entry level security software engineers right now include Amazon, Google, and Plaid, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Hiring covers large technology companies, financial institutions, defense contractors, and cybersecurity-focused startups, many of which run structured new grad programs designed to bring junior engineers up to speed quickly.
Are there remote entry level security software engineer jobs?
Yes, though on-site and hybrid roles are also common at this stage. About 13% of entry level security software engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, so candidates willing to consider on-site positions in major tech hubs will see the widest set of openings. Remote-first teams often expect stronger self-directed portfolios from new hires.
Are these new grad security software engineer jobs?
Yes. These listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior security software engineer roles alongside standard entry level postings. A new-grad-friendly posting typically welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internships or academic projects as qualifying background, and does not require prior full-time employment. Look for language like "new grad," "junior," or "0-2 years" as reliable signals.
Which industries hire the most entry level security software engineers?
Entry Level security software engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Retail, and E-Commerce & Online Marketplaces, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Those sectors drive hiring at this level because they manage large volumes of sensitive data and face recurring regulatory pressure to build security into their software from the earliest stages of development.
