Entry Level Firmware Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level firmware job?
Focus on building hands-on experience through personal projects, coursework labs, or internships involving embedded systems, microcontrollers, or real-time operating systems. Employers at this level look for candidates who can demonstrate practical C or C++ skills, familiarity with debugging tools, and an understanding of hardware-software interaction. A GitHub portfolio showing working firmware projects gives you a concrete edge over candidates with no demonstrated output.
Which companies hire entry level firmwares?
Companies hiring entry level firmwares right now include Brady Corporation, Google, and Qualcomm, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level covers consumer electronics manufacturers, automotive suppliers, defense contractors, and semiconductor companies, many of which run structured new-hire programs designed to onboard candidates directly from university or bootcamp backgrounds.
Are there remote entry level firmware jobs?
Yes, though on-site and hybrid roles make up the majority at this experience level. About 0% of entry level firmware openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting that many teams prefer new engineers in-person for hands-on hardware access and mentorship. Searching by location preference on Migrate Mate lets you filter current openings to match your situation.
Are these new grad firmware jobs?
Yes, the listings here include new grad, recent graduate, and junior firmware roles. A posting is new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, counts internships or co-ops toward the requirement, or explicitly accepts a strong portfolio in place of professional history. Searching for "new grad" or "junior" alongside firmware surfaces these roles directly.
Which industries hire the most entry level firmwares?
Entry level firmware roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Electronics & Hardware, and Manufacturing, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive entry level hiring because they depend heavily on embedded software for product development cycles, creating consistent demand for junior engineers who can write, test, and debug firmware close to the hardware layer.
