At GoDaddy the future of work looks different for each team. Some teams work in the office full-time, others have a hybrid arrangement (they work remotely some days and in the office some days) and some work entirely remotely.
This is a remote position, so you’ll be working remotely from your home. You may occasionally visit a GoDaddy office to meet with your team for events or meetings.
This position is not eligible to be performed in Alaska, Mississippi, North Dakota, or the Virgin Islands.
GoDaddy is not currently considering candidates for this role in California, Seattle, or NYC.

GoDaddy is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer to help build and improve our Internal Developer Platform — a centralized system that powers how engineers across the company build, deploy, and operate software. This platform is used by 1,000+ engineers to manage everything from cloud infrastructure and application lifecycle to security, compliance, and cost transparency.
In this role, you'll own meaningful pieces of the platform end-to-end: designing, building, and shipping services that engineers across GoDaddy depend on every day. You'll work on initiatives like AI-powered developer tooling, API platform improvements, and a unified developer experience spanning APIs, CLI, and UI.
You'll work with minimal guidance on day-to-day delivery, partner with infrastructure, security, and platform teams, and take a visible role on a small, cross-functional agile team — leading code reviews, driving ideas at sprint planning, and mentoring teammates. If you're motivated by building tools that make other engineers faster, this team sits at the center of GoDaddy's engineering ecosystem.
What You'll Get to Do...
- Design, build, and ship platform services and features used by 1,000+ engineers
- Contribute to the design of high-scale APIs, infrastructure orchestration, and metadata systems
- Build AI-powered developer tooling, including chat-based and agentic workflows
- Partner with infrastructure, security, and platform teams to integrate core capabilities
- Own the components you build in production — performance, reliability, debugging complex production issues, and on-call rotation
- Independently spot problem areas in your area of responsibility and proactively fix them
- Champion testing practices and raise the quality bar with your teammates
Your Experience Should Include...
- Backend engineering with Node.js / TypeScript and experience designing APIs (REST, versioning, contracts)
- Experience building on AWS (ECS/Fargate, DynamoDB, RDS/Aurora, IAM)
- Full-stack development using React / Next.js
- Solid distributed systems fundamentals (data modeling, caching, consistency, system design)
- CI/CD and testing best practices (GitHub Actions, unit/integration testing)
- Comfort working in Scrum, with a genuine interest in improving both the product and the process
- Curiosity about AI tooling and a habit of integrating it into your daily workflow
You Might Also Have...
- Experience with an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) or developer tooling ecosystem
- Familiarity with LLM/AI integrations, agentic workflows, or prompt engineering
- Exposure to ServiceNow / CMDB or enterprise metadata systems
- Infrastructure-as-code experience (CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation)
- Knowledge of security and secrets management (Vault, IAM, compliance practices)
- Contributions to internal open source or technology working groups
We encourage you to apply even if your experience or skillset doesn’t align perfectly with every requirement. We value a wide range of backgrounds and transferable skills, and we are excited to support learning and growth.

Senior Level Backend Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level backend engineer job?
Employers hiring at this level look for engineers who have owned systems end-to-end, not just contributed to them. Demonstrating that you have made architectural decisions, driven reliability or performance improvements at scale, and mentored junior engineers gives you a clear edge. A portfolio of concrete outcomes, such as reducing latency or leading a migration, carries more weight than tenure alone.
Which companies hire senior level backend engineers?
Companies hiring senior level backend engineers right now include Databricks, Capital One, and Apple, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide range of employers, from high-growth technology companies to established enterprises modernizing their infrastructure and needing engineers who can lead that work.
Are there remote senior level backend engineer jobs?
Yes, remote and hybrid options are common at this level. About 54% of senior level backend engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how many employers trust experienced engineers to work independently across distributed teams. On-site roles do exist, particularly at companies with strict security or compliance requirements.
What makes a backend engineer role senior level?
Senior level backend engineer roles are defined by ownership and scope. Engineers at this stage design systems rather than implement tickets, make independent architectural trade-offs, and are accountable for the reliability and scalability of what they build. They are also expected to mentor engineers at earlier career stages, contribute to hiring decisions, and drive technical standards across their team or organization.
Which industries hire the most senior level backend engineers?
Senior Level backend engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Banking & Financial Services, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. These sectors drive demand at this level because they operate high-traffic, data-intensive systems where experienced engineers who can own architecture and lead complex projects have direct business impact.
