Purpose:
The Surgical Technologist (certified or licensed) serves as a member of the surgical team, responds to patient needs, prepares / maintains resources (e.g., equipment, instruments, supplies) & provides safe, quality health care services & / or assistance for surgical procedures in accordance with level of experience, education, policies / procedures / protocols & standards.
Note: “patients” refers to patients, clients, residents, participants, customers, members
Essential Functions

Work Focus: Performs clinical care activities (direct or indirect) for patients within the “scope of practice” laws & training received; Cares for patients safely by assisting in clinical care services or engaging in administrative activities (e.g., maintaining records or supplies) that enhance or improve coordination, preparation & flow of the care experience.
Process Focus: Knows, understands & incorporates basic or essential area of practice (document, coordinate, communicate) & training standards.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable federal, state & local laws/regulations, Trinity Health Integrity & Compliance Program & Code of Conduct, as well as other policies, procedures & guidelines in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical & professional behavior & safe work practices.
Functional Role (not inclusive of titles or advancement career progression)
Tech / Support III – skilled: Licensed or certified role (direct healthcare) that supports the total peri-operative process; Provides intra-operative patient care to patients as directed by the Director of Nursing / Medical Director / Quality Committee(s); Anticipates surgeon’s needs in the use of medical supplies, instrumentation & equipment availability & readiness; Maintains a safe & clean operating room suite; Assists & / or ensures documentation & detailed records are kept; Performs essential duties & techniques appropriate to role / function / procedure; Participates in quality improvement processes; May serve as a resource (lead), role model & / or mentor.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED; Current certification from accredited Surgical Technology program; At least one (1) year experience in a health care or military medical setting; Meets requirements for applicable state(s) of engagement.
