Chief Financial Officer Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a chief financial officer job in Chicago?
The strongest path into a chief financial officer role in Chicago is through the city's dense financial services, healthcare, and private equity sectors, which concentrate in the Loop and River North. Candidates who combine deep FP&A or public accounting experience with Chicago-market relationships gain a clear edge. Engaging with local CFO networks and targeting mid-market firms in Fulton Market or the North Shore suburbs also opens doors.
Which companies hire chief financial officers in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring chief financial officers in Chicago include Fitch Ratings, ZS, and PwC, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's employer mix ranges from Fortune 500 headquarters and regional banks to fast-growing healthtech and private equity-backed mid-market firms, giving candidates a wide range of company types to target.
Are there remote chief financial officer jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though most chief financial officer roles remain largely on-site given the board-level presence and leadership demands they require. About 66% of chief financial officer openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, most commonly at technology-forward or private equity-backed companies where financial oversight is more analytically driven than operationally hands-on.
How can I get a chief financial officer job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a controller, VP of Finance, or senior FP&A role at a Chicago mid-market company, where the step to chief financial officer is shorter and faster than at a large corporation. Chicago's strong community of private equity-backed businesses and growth-stage startups in the West Loop and Fulton Market regularly promote finance leaders from within, making lateral moves from director-level roles a proven local strategy.
Which industries hire the most chief financial officers in Chicago?
Chicago chief financial officer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Sports & Recreation, and Investment & Asset Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's position as a global hub for commodity trading, insurance, and healthcare systems means these sectors generate consistent demand for senior finance leadership across both headquarters and regional operations.
