Description
The Mannik & Smith Group, Inc. (MSG) is a people focused, award-winning, full-service consulting firm that offers a wide array of services including civil and geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, planning, landscape architecture, agriculture, surveying and construction support. Our talented staff of more than 650+ professionals deliver integrated planning, design, engineering and construction solutions. Due to MSG's continued growth, a new opening is available for a Civil Engineer to assist with our projects in Cleveland, OH!
Design the Places Where Life Happens
MSG is growing, and we're looking for a Civil Engineer who wants to be in the room where projects actually come together — not just watching from the hallway. You'll work alongside senior staff, licensed engineers, and fellow junior engineers on commercial, residential, industrial, energy, and water/wastewater projects across the Midwest. One week you might be knee-deep in stormwater modeling; the next, coordinating with five different disciplines to keep a project on track. If you like variety (and a little organized chaos), you'll fit right in. That investment in your growth is backed by more than good intentions: this role comes with a guaranteed seat in Blueprint, our new early career leadership program for engineers looking to grow beyond the typical entry-level experience. Over six months, you'll take part in a hands-on curriculum covering professional development, business acumen, and project delivery — including case studies, simulations, and role-play exercises — covering topics like project economics, communication, and leadership fundamentals. It all wraps up with an in-person capstone event where you'll present your work and map out your goals for the year ahead.
Your Future Starts With A Plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Team up with senior staff and licensed engineers to design and prepare plans for a wide range of commercial, residential, industrial, energy, water/wastewater, and community projects
- Coordinate across MSG's many specialties — Surveying, Geotechnical, Structural, Site Construction, and more — because good projects are never a solo act
- Perform and check design calculations that keep every package accurate and buildable
- Get involved early: feasibility documents, due diligence reports, zoning studies, stormwater modeling and design, cost estimates, and detailed design plans
- Get out of the office occasionally for day-travel and fieldwork (planned in advance, no surprises)
- Take on new tasks as they come — things move fast here, and that's part of the fun
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- 1–5 years of related experience relevant to Civil Site Design
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD/Civil 3D
- Plans to pursue FE/EIT certification soon, with your sights set on PE licensure down the road
- Stormwater management experience not required, but would be recommended
- Strong communication skills and comfort working in a busy, multi-faceted team environment

Civil Engineer Jobs in Cleveland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a civil engineer job in Cleveland?
The strongest hiring in Cleveland comes from municipal agencies, regional infrastructure contractors, and commercial construction firms working on the city's ongoing transit and waterfront projects. Candidates with experience in stormwater management, roadway design, or structural assessment tend to stand out locally. Familiarity with ODOT standards and Northeast Ohio permitting processes gives applicants a concrete edge over candidates with purely private-sector backgrounds.
Which companies hire civil engineers in Cleveland?
Employers hiring civil engineers in Cleveland right now include Langan Engineering and Environmental Services, AECOM, and Jobot, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Cleveland's hiring mix typically includes large engineering consultancies, the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County agencies, regional utilities, and commercial construction firms active in the lakefront and downtown redevelopment corridors.
Are there remote civil engineer jobs in Cleveland?
Yes, though civil engineering is largely site-dependent, so fully remote roles are uncommon compared to office-based professions. About 16% of civil engineer openings tied to Cleveland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with most flexibility concentrated in planning, design review, and project management functions rather than field or inspection work.
How can I get a civil engineer job in Cleveland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Cleveland is through an engineering technician or junior project engineer role with a regional consultancy or a municipal contractor supporting city infrastructure work. Firms bidding on Cuyahoga County and ODOT contracts regularly hire entry-level engineers for survey, drafting, and field support. A co-op or internship with a Cleveland-area firm, combined with EIT certification, signals job-readiness to local employers.
Which industries hire the most civil engineers in Cleveland?
The sectors hiring the most civil engineers in Cleveland are Consulting & Professional Services, Staffing & Recruiting, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Cleveland's sustained investment in lakefront development, bridge rehabilitation, and public transit upgrades keeps infrastructure and construction firms as the dominant source of local demand for civil engineers.
