Civil Project Engineer Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a civil project engineer job in Houston?
Focus your search on Houston's energy infrastructure, municipal utilities, and large-scale commercial development sectors, which drive the most consistent hiring here. Engineering and construction firms in the Energy Corridor and along the Ship Channel are active employers. Candidates with experience in drainage design, roadway improvements, or utility coordination for Texas Department of Transportation projects have a clear edge in the local market.
Which companies hire civil project engineers in Houston?
Companies currently hiring civil project engineers in Houston include Primoris Services Corporation, GHD, and Westwood Professional Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's market is driven by a mix of large engineering consultancies, oil and gas operators, and municipal contractors serving the City of Houston and Harris County.
Are there remote civil project engineer jobs in Houston?
Yes, but sparingly, since civil project engineering is heavily field- and site-oriented by nature. About 13% of civil project engineer openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, typically for roles focused on design, CAD drafting, or project controls rather than construction management or site inspection.
How can I get a civil project engineer job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is through engineering internships or junior engineer roles at mid-size civil consulting firms that support Harris County or City of Houston infrastructure contracts. Entry-level candidates who are EIT-certified and familiar with AutoCAD Civil 3D stand out locally. Firms supporting the Houston TranStar corridor or regional flood control projects also hire entry-level engineers for field support roles.
Which industries hire the most civil project engineers in Houston?
Houston civil project engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Energy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's scale as a major energy hub and one of the fastest-growing metros in the country fuels continuous demand from both private developers and public agencies managing roads, water systems, and flood mitigation.
