Bridge Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a bridge engineer in Texas?
Becoming a bridge engineer in Texas starts with a bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited program, followed by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam to earn your Engineer-in-Training certification. After gaining qualifying work experience, you apply to the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors to sit for the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam and earn your Texas PE license, which most employers require for independent design work.
How much do bridge engineers make in Texas?
Bridge engineers in Texas earn a median of about $96,860 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $63,240 for the lowest 10% to over $164,330 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire bridge engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring bridge engineers in Texas right now include Garver, Fishbeck, and GFT, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large TxDOT project pipeline and active municipal infrastructure programs mean both large engineering firms and regional consultancies maintain ongoing hiring across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most bridge engineer jobs?
Dallas, Austin, and Houston have the most bridge engineer openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense freeway network and industrial port infrastructure, Dallas-Fort Worth draws heavy demand from one of the fastest-growing highway systems in the country, and San Antonio anchors a steady pipeline of TxDOT and municipal improvement projects across the south-central region.
Are there remote bridge engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 53% of bridge engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves site inspections, plan reviews with field crews, and coordination with TxDOT district offices. The portions most suited to remote or hybrid arrangements are preliminary design, structural analysis, and report writing rather than construction support or inspection roles.
How can I get hired as a bridge engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to Texas engineering consultancies that partner with TxDOT and run structured new-graduate programs, including firms like Freese and Nichols, Kimley-Horn, and Atkins, which regularly bring on EIT candidates for bridge design support roles. Positions titled junior bridge engineer, structural design associate, or bridge inspection technician are the most common entry points. Earning your EIT certification before applying and building a portfolio of academic bridge projects or capstone work gives candidates a clear edge in the Texas market.
Where can I find and apply to bridge engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to bridge engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across consulting firms, government agencies, and contractors. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly.
