Project Controls Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project controls engineer in Texas?
Most project controls engineers in Texas enter the field with a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline. Texas does not require a state-issued license specific to project controls, but many employers expect professional certifications such as the AACE International Certified Cost Professional or the PMI Planning and Scheduling Professional. Gaining experience on capital projects in Texas's energy or industrial construction sectors is the most reliable path to full project controls responsibility.
Which companies hire project controls engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring project controls engineers in Texas right now include Amazon, Apple, and Primoris Services Corporation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy, petrochemical, and large infrastructure projects means demand is particularly strong among engineering and construction firms managing multi-year capital programs.
Which Texas cities have the most project controls engineer jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the most project controls engineer openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense concentration of oil and gas operators, refineries, and major engineering firms that manage large capital projects, while Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio support demand through infrastructure, commercial construction, and industrial development programs based in those metros.
Are there remote project controls engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since project controls work often requires direct coordination with on-site teams and project stakeholders. About 8% of project controls engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting selective flexibility from larger firms. The planning, reporting, and cost analysis portions of the role are the most likely to be performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a project controls engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for project controls analyst, cost engineer, or schedule coordinator roles at large engineering and construction firms in Texas such as Jacobs, Bechtel, or Fluor, which regularly bring in new graduates for capital project support work. A degree in engineering or construction management combined with a foundational AACE or PMI certification signals readiness to employers. Lateral moves from estimating, project management support, or construction management roles are also a recognized way into project controls in Texas's energy and industrial sectors.
Where can I find and apply to project controls engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to project controls engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across the energy, industrial, and infrastructure sectors. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly to each one.
