Electrical Systems Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a electrical systems engineer in Texas?
Most employers in Texas require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline as the foundation. For roles in public infrastructure, government contracting, or senior positions, a Professional Engineer license through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is often required or strongly preferred, and candidates pursue it by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam followed by the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam after gaining qualifying experience.
How much do electrical systems engineers make in Texas?
Electrical systems engineers in Texas earn a median of about $129,450 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $76,120 for the lowest 10% to over $210,160 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire electrical systems engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring electrical systems engineers in Texas right now include Apple, DNV, and Electric Power Engineers, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors, energy companies, and semiconductor firms makes it one of the more consistent states for sustained electrical systems engineering demand across multiple industries.
Which Texas cities have the most electrical systems engineer jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas account for the largest share of electrical systems engineer openings in Texas. Houston's energy sector and defense contractors, Dallas-Fort Worth's aerospace and electronics manufacturing base, and Austin's growing semiconductor and technology industries drive most of the demand, making all three metros reliable targets for candidates at any experience level.
Are there remote electrical systems engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical fields because much of this work involves hardware, lab testing, and on-site systems integration. About 22% of electrical systems engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with the remote share concentrated in systems-level design, requirements documentation, and modeling work that does not require physical access to equipment.
How can I get hired as a electrical systems engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a new-graduate or rotational engineering program at large Texas employers in aerospace, defense, or energy, where structured cohorts bring in candidates with no industry experience. Companies like Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Technologies run early-career programs at their Texas facilities. Pursuing the Fundamentals of Engineering credential through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors and building a portfolio of capstone or internship projects strengthens applications, as does targeting adjacent entry roles such as electrical design technician or test engineer to build toward full systems engineering responsibilities.
Where can I find and apply to electrical systems engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to electrical systems engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across aerospace, defense, energy, and semiconductor sectors. Find the roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly to the employers posting them.
