Environmental Remediation Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a environmental remediation engineer in Texas?
Most employers require a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, geology, or environmental science. From there, gaining field experience in site investigation and remediation is the standard path. Earning your Professional Engineer license through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors strengthens your candidacy significantly for senior and project lead roles. Some positions also value TCEQ-specific training or certifications in underground storage tank remediation.
How much do environmental remediation engineers make in Texas?
Environmental remediation engineers in Texas earn a median of about $123,060 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $76,510 for the lowest 10% to over $177,820 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire environmental remediation engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring environmental remediation engineers in Texas right now include ECS Limited, Braun Intertec, and GHD, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large concentration of petrochemical facilities, refineries, and industrial sites means consulting firms and energy sector contractors are among the most active and consistent hirers statewide.
Which Texas cities have the most environmental remediation engineer jobs?
Houston, Carrollton, and Midland have the most environmental remediation engineer openings in Texas. Houston leads due to its dense concentration of refineries, chemical plants, and energy company headquarters that generate ongoing remediation and compliance work, while Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio attract openings tied to industrial development, municipal projects, and the large regional offices of national environmental consulting firms.
Are there remote environmental remediation engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Environmental remediation engineering is inherently a field-based role, with much of the work requiring on-site sampling, system oversight, and direct interaction with regulatory agencies. About 0% of environmental remediation engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically cover data analysis, report writing, and regulatory correspondence rather than active site work.
How can I get hired as a environmental remediation engineer in Texas with little or no experience?

Internships tied to TCEQ voluntary cleanup programs or university partnerships with Texas A&M or UT Austin's engineering programs also open doors. A geology or environmental science degree with any field sampling coursework, combined with a fundamentals of engineering exam pass, gives candidates a measurable edge.
