Engineering Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering in Texas?
Licensure in Texas requires passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam after earning an ABET-accredited engineering degree, gaining qualifying work experience, and then passing the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam administered through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. After those steps are complete, candidates apply for a PE license in their chosen discipline. Some positions in industry or research do not require licensure, but roles involving public safety, government contracts, or sealed drawings consistently do.
Which companies hire engineerings in Texas?
Employers hiring engineerings in Texas right now include Goldman Sachs, L3Harris, and University of Texas at Austin, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Texas's concentration of energy, defense, and semiconductor companies means engineering hiring stays broad across disciplines and experience levels throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most engineering jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas have the most engineering openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense petrochemical and energy infrastructure, Dallas draws heavily from aerospace, defense, and technology firms headquartered in the Metroplex, and Austin's growth in semiconductor manufacturing and clean energy has made it one of the fastest-expanding engineering markets in the state.
Are there remote engineering jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely analytical fields because much engineering work involves physical sites, equipment, or lab environments. About 44% of engineering openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with availability skewing toward roles in software systems engineering, data infrastructure, and project management rather than hands-on design or field work.
How can I get hired as a engineering in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic starting point is an entry-level or associate engineer role at a large Texas employer running structured new-graduate programs, such as those offered by major energy companies in Houston or defense contractors in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Co-op and internship completions at Texas A&M, UT Austin, or other state engineering schools frequently lead to direct offers. Sitting for the Fundamentals of Engineering exam early gives candidates a measurable credential edge, and roles like engineering technician or CAD drafter are common lateral moves that build toward a full engineering position.
Where can I find and apply to engineering jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to engineering jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to Texas employers and locations. Search for roles that match your discipline, experience level, and preferred city, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
