Geotechnical Engineering Technician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a geotechnical engineering technician in Texas?
Most Texas employers hire geotechnical engineering technicians with an associate or bachelor's degree in civil engineering technology, geology, or a related discipline. Texas does not require a state-issued license for technician-level work, but NICET certification in geotechnical or construction materials testing significantly strengthens candidacy. Many technicians enter through entry-level field roles, then build toward certification while gaining supervised field and lab hours.
How much do geotechnical engineering technicians make in Texas?
Geotechnical engineering technicians in Texas earn a median of about $59,390 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $42,520 for the lowest 10% to over $92,560 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire geotechnical engineering technicians in Texas?
Employers hiring geotechnical engineering technicians in Texas right now include ECS Limited, HVJ ASSOCIATES, and Intertek, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's volume of highway, pipeline, and large commercial construction projects keeps demand steady across both major metros and smaller regional markets throughout the state.
Which Texas cities have the most geotechnical engineering technician jobs?
Carrollton, Houston, and Austin have the most geotechnical engineering technician openings in Texas. Houston drives volume through its concentration of energy infrastructure and port construction projects, Dallas-Fort Worth through rapid commercial and transportation development, and San Antonio through sustained military installation work and regional highway expansion funded by TxDOT.
Are there remote geotechnical engineering technician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Geotechnical engineering technician work is fundamentally field- and lab-based, so most roles require regular on-site presence. About 0% of geotechnical engineering technician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be report-writing, data analysis, or project coordination duties that can be performed off-site.
How can I get hired as a geotechnical engineering technician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to junior field technician or lab assistant roles at firms like Terracon, Kleinfelder, or Atlas Technical Consultants, all of which operate multiple Texas offices and regularly hire candidates without experience.
