Safety Technician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a safety technician in Texas?
The most direct path in Texas is completing an associate degree or certificate in occupational health and safety, then earning an OSHA 30-hour card and pursuing the Construction Health and Safety Technician credential, known as CHST, through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. Texas does not require a state-issued safety technician license, so most employers treat the CHST or the Associate Safety Professional designation as the baseline professional credential for hiring.
Which companies hire safety technicians in Texas?
Employers hiring safety technicians in Texas right now include Summit Fire & Security, Pye-Barker Fire & Safety, and Audubon Companies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's dense concentration of refineries, chemical plants, and large construction contractors means demand for safety technicians is consistent year-round across the Houston Ship Channel corridor and the broader Gulf Coast industrial region.
Which Texas cities have the most safety technician jobs?
Houston, Austin, and San Antonio have the most safety technician openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its massive petrochemical and refining industry anchored along the Ship Channel, while San Antonio draws demand from large construction projects and military installation contractors, and Beaumont reflects the concentration of refineries and industrial facilities in the Southeast Texas Golden Triangle.
Are there remote safety technician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. About 1% of safety technician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which reflects the fundamentally on-site nature of the role. The portions of the job most likely to shift remote are administrative functions like compliance reporting, safety program writing, and incident documentation review rather than field inspection or site oversight work.
How can I get hired as a safety technician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying as a safety observer or safety monitor on large Texas construction or industrial turnaround projects, where employers like Turner Industries and Zachry Group regularly bring on candidates with an OSHA 10 card and a willingness to work in the field. Completing an OSHA 30-hour course and a community college certificate in occupational safety through a school like San Jacinto College or Lone Star College strengthens your application significantly. Roles labeled safety assistant, EHS coordinator, or field safety observer are the most common lateral entry points for candidates without prior safety-specific experience.
Where can I find and apply to safety technician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to safety technician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across Houston, San Antonio, Beaumont, and other active markets. Find roles that fit your experience and credentials and apply directly to the employers posting them.
