Product Design Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a product design engineer in Texas?
Most product design engineer roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Texas does not require a state license for most private-sector product design engineering roles, but pursuing licensure as a Professional Engineer through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors strengthens candidacy for senior or client-facing positions. Building a portfolio of CAD models and completed design projects is a practical advantage when entering the field.
Which companies hire product design engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring product design engineers in Texas right now include Apple, Amazon, and Micron Technology, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of aerospace, semiconductor, energy technology, and medical device companies means demand is distributed across a broad range of industries rather than a single sector.
Which Texas cities have the most product design engineer jobs?
The Texas cities with the most product design engineer openings are Austin, Richardson, and Dallas. Houston's concentration of energy technology and industrial equipment companies drives demand there, while Austin and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex attract hardware and semiconductor employers alongside large corporate engineering centers that consistently post design engineering roles.
Are there remote product design engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Product design engineering is inherently hands-on, requiring lab access, prototyping equipment, and coordination with manufacturing teams, which limits full remote work. About 0% of product design engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and when flexibility does appear, it tends to apply to the requirements-definition, documentation, or simulation-heavy phases of the role rather than the physical design and testing work.
How can I get hired as a product design engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an engineering internship or co-op with a Texas manufacturing or technology company, which many large Texas employers including Texas Instruments and Lockheed Martin run through their campus recruiting programs. Candidates can also move into product design from adjacent roles like manufacturing engineer, quality engineer, or CAD technician. A strong project portfolio, relevant coursework in design and materials, and a passing record on the Fundamentals of Engineering exam through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors all give early-career candidates a concrete edge.
Where can I find and apply to product design engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to product design engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries including aerospace, semiconductors, energy technology, and medical devices. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly.
