- Support sustaining engineering activities for production equipment that has been in operation for several years.
- Partner with Maintenance, Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to improve machine performance and operational effectiveness.
- Develop and update work instructions, SOPs, troubleshooting guides, and maintenance procedures.
- Train technicians and production personnel on equipment operation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance practices.
- Evaluate current maintenance strategies and recommend preventive and corrective maintenance improvements.
- Support equipment modifications, upgrades, and optimization projects in collaboration with internal engineering teams and external OEMs.
- Participate in design reviews and provide recommendations to improve equipment reliability and maintainability.
- Utilize data analysis techniques to identify recurring failure patterns and develop sustainable corrective actions.
- Assist in PFMEA, Control Plans, and other manufacturing quality documentation activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience supporting manufacturing equipment in a production environment.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience conducting Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implementing corrective actions.
- Experience improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), machine uptime, and production throughput.
- Hands-on experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment and production machinery.
- Ability to work directly on the manufacturing floor and support day-to-day production operations.
- Experience developing SOPs, work instructions, and technical documentation.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with production, maintenance, and engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Sustaining Engineer, Equipment Engineer, Reliability Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or Maintenance Engineer.
- Experience in Medical Device, Packaging, Electronics, Automotive, or other highly automated manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of PLCs, robotics, automation systems, and machine controls.
- Experience reviewing mechanical designs and equipment modifications.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks or other CAD software.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, or Kaizen methodologies.

Tips for Your Manufacturing Engineer Job Search
Tailor your resume to each sector
Automotive and aerospace employers scan for different keywords. Highlight PFMEA and APQP for automotive, GD&T and AS9100 for aerospace, and FDA 21 CFR Part 820 for medical devices. Mismatched jargon signals a generic resume and gets filtered out early.
Quantify process improvement results clearly
Recruiters expect numbers behind every improvement claim. Replace phrases like 'reduced scrap' with the actual yield gain or cost saved. If you led a kaizen event, state the cycle time reduction. Vague outcomes read as filler on a manufacturing engineer resume.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists manufacturing engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by required certifications
Many listings quietly require Six Sigma Green Belt, PMP, or IATF 16949 auditor credentials. Filtering for those before applying saves time and surfaces roles where your certification is a differentiator, not a catch-up item that delays your start date.
Prepare a technical case for the phone screen
Manufacturing engineer phone screens often open with a process troubleshooting question before any behavioral questions. Walk through your root-cause methodology, the tools you used, and what the corrective action changed on the line. Vague answers at this stage rarely advance.
Negotiate start date around equipment access
If you need to wrap up a validation run, tooling transfer, or PPAP before leaving your current role, name that in the offer conversation. Hiring managers in manufacturing understand production dependencies and are usually more flexible on start dates than on total compensation.
Manufacturing Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most manufacturing engineers?
The companies hiring the most manufacturing engineers right now include Apple, Amazon, and Micron Idaho Semiconductor Manufacturing (Triton), with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and Michigan, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Openings at larger manufacturers tend to cluster around existing plant and R&D facilities, so filtering by location helps narrow the most active opportunities.
How many manufacturing engineer jobs are remote?
About 6% of manufacturing engineer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is lower than most engineering disciplines because the role is closely tied to physical production environments. Sub-areas with the highest remote share include process documentation, supplier quality engineering, and manufacturing systems roles that focus on ERP configuration or data analysis rather than floor-level work.
How do you become a manufacturing engineer?
Most manufacturing engineers start with a bachelor's degree in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering, then build hands-on experience through internships or co-ops on a production floor. From there, earning a Six Sigma Green Belt or completing APQP training adds credibility. Progressing into senior roles typically requires leading a process improvement project end-to-end, including root-cause analysis, corrective action, and measurable output results.
Can you get hired as a manufacturing engineer without much experience?
Yes, entry-level manufacturing engineer roles are common at mid-size manufacturers who develop talent internally rather than competing for experienced candidates. The strongest early-career applications highlight co-op or internship time on a production line, any exposure to quality systems like ISO or IATF, and a capstone project that involved real fabrication or process analysis rather than purely simulated work.
What does the manufacturing engineer interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a recruiter screen focused on background and availability, followed by a technical phone interview covering process troubleshooting, lean tools, and drawing interpretation. Finalists usually complete an on-site visit that includes a plant floor walk, a technical panel with engineering and operations staff, and sometimes a whiteboard exercise where you diagnose a simulated production problem and propose a corrective action plan.
Where can I find and apply to manufacturing engineer jobs?
You can find and apply to manufacturing engineer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Find roles that match your experience and specialization, then apply directly to each listing. Openings are updated regularly, so checking back frequently gives you access to roles before application volumes climb.
