What We Look For
- 4-20+ years of experience as a full stack engineer, machine learning engineer, data scientist, product designer, or product engineer at a leading startup, growth stage, or big tech company
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of major products or significant portions thereof
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple workstreams
- Strong ownership mindset and bias toward action
- Former founder, side project builder, or hacker mentality
- Excitement to code and "hack" for both product and internal use

Product Design Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a product design engineer in New York?
Most product design engineer roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited program. New York does not require a state-issued license specifically for product design engineers in private industry, though engineers who sign off on public-safety documents may pursue a Professional Engineer license through the New York State Education Department. Building a portfolio of CAD work and prototype projects strengthens candidacy significantly.
Which companies hire product design engineers in New York?
Employers hiring product design engineers in New York right now include Anthropic, Meta, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's strong medical device and advanced manufacturing sectors mean many of these openings sit within companies that require experience with regulated or precision-engineered products.
Which New York cities have the most product design engineer jobs?
New York, Albany, and Endicott account for the most product design engineer openings in New York. New York City drives volume through its dense consumer electronics, fashion-tech, and startup hardware scene, while Rochester and Buffalo draw on deep roots in optics, photonics, and industrial manufacturing anchored by employers like Corning and the region's aerospace and defense contractors.
Are there remote product design engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're limited. Product design engineering is fundamentally a hands-on role that involves working with physical prototypes, lab equipment, and manufacturing floors, which keeps most positions on-site or hybrid. About 25% of product design engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and the roles most likely to offer flexibility are those focused on CAD modeling, documentation, or systems-level design rather than physical prototyping.
How can I get hired as a product design engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a co-op or internship through New York engineering programs at schools like RPI, Cornell, or SUNY Binghamton, which feed directly into full-time new-grad roles at regional manufacturers and device companies. Entry-level titles like junior mechanical designer or product development associate are common at mid-size New York manufacturers. A strong CAD portfolio with documented projects, even from coursework or personal builds, is the single clearest credential that opens doors at the hiring stage.
Where can I find and apply to product design engineer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to product design engineer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state. Search the listings to see roles that match your experience level and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
