Electrical project engineers in New York earn a median of about $119,010 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,870 for the lowest 10% to over $168,820 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire electrical project engineers in New York?
Employers hiring electrical project engineers in New York right now include Arcadis, Popli Design, and WSP, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's combination of major utility infrastructure, large-scale commercial construction, and transit expansion programs keeps demand from utilities, engineering consultancies, and general contractors consistently high throughout the state.
Which New York cities have the most electrical project engineer jobs?
New York, Rochester, and Albany have the most electrical project engineer openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its density of large-scale commercial, transit, and utility projects, while Buffalo benefits from ongoing regional energy and manufacturing investment and Albany draws demand from state government infrastructure and utility operations across the Capital Region.
Are there remote electrical project engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Electrical project engineers typically need to be on site for inspections, contractor coordination, and field verification, which limits remote availability. How can I get hired as a electrical project engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a junior or associate engineer role at a large engineering consultancy or utility, where structured project exposure is built in from day one. Firms such as Con Edison and large AEC consultancies in New York City regularly bring on new graduates for rotational or entry-level project roles. Completing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam and earning your EIT registration with the New York State Education Department gives candidates a concrete edge over applicants without any credentials.
