Embedded Systems Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a embedded systems engineer in New York?
Most embedded systems engineer roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related discipline, and the state does not issue a specific license for this title. Employers in New York's defense and medical device sectors frequently require candidates to be eligible for a federal security clearance or to hold relevant certifications such as IPC-A-610 for hardware work. A strong portfolio of firmware projects or relevant internship experience at a New York area employer is one of the most effective differentiators for new candidates.
How much do embedded systems engineers make in New York?
Embedded systems engineers in New York earn a median of about $163,470 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $101,530 for the lowest 10% to over $224,490 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire embedded systems engineers in New York?
Employers hiring embedded systems engineers in New York right now include GE Aerospace, Quest Defense, and Parabit Systems, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. New York's concentration of aerospace, defense, and medical technology firms means hiring tends to be consistent across Long Island, the greater New York City metro, and the state's Capital Region technology corridor.
Which New York cities have the most embedded systems engineer jobs?
The cities with the most embedded systems engineer openings in New York are Hauppauge, Bohemia, and Bellmore. New York City anchors demand through its dense concentration of telecommunications, fintech hardware, and health technology firms, while Long Island draws substantial activity from defense and aerospace contractors, and the Albany and Syracuse areas benefit from semiconductor and advanced manufacturing employers that have grown their engineering headcount in recent years.
Are there remote embedded systems engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they are rare, because embedded systems work typically requires hands-on access to hardware, lab equipment, and physical prototypes. About 25% of embedded systems engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those opportunities tend to concentrate in software-heavy sub-disciplines such as firmware architecture, hardware abstraction layer development, and driver software where the hands-on requirement is less constant.
How can I get hired as a embedded systems engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate or new-graduate engineer role with a large New York defense or medical device employer that runs structured rotational programs, such as those offered by major aerospace contractors on Long Island or semiconductor firms in the Albany area. Pursuing internships through New York engineering schools and building a portfolio of personal embedded projects on publicly available microcontroller platforms strengthens applications considerably. Lateral entry from adjacent roles such as hardware test engineer, field applications engineer, or electronics technician is also a common path at New York employers.
Where can I find and apply to embedded systems engineer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to embedded systems engineer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to employers actively hiring in the state. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your background and target location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
