Field Engineer Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a field engineer in New York?
Most field engineer positions in New York require a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline such as civil, electrical, or mechanical engineering. Many employers prefer candidates who hold an Engineer-in-Training credential or are pursuing a Professional Engineer license through the New York State Education Department, which oversees engineering licensure in the state. Gaining field experience through internships, co-ops, or entry-level site roles significantly strengthens a candidate's prospects in the New York market.
Which companies hire field engineers in New York?
Employers hiring field engineers in New York right now include K&A Engineering, Thermo Fisher Scientific, and ARxIUM, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of utility, telecommunications, and infrastructure firms means hiring is consistent throughout the year, with particularly strong demand from companies supporting grid modernization and broadband expansion projects across the state.
Which New York cities have the most field engineer jobs?
The cities with the most field engineer openings in New York are New York, Albany, and Brooklyn. New York City drives the majority of listings given its concentration of utility providers, telecom carriers, and large construction and infrastructure firms, while Buffalo and Albany generate steady demand from regional utilities, state infrastructure projects, and manufacturing operations anchored in western and central New York.
Are there remote field engineer jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Field engineering is inherently on-site work, involving physical inspections, equipment installation, and direct client or contractor coordination, which limits remote flexibility. About 18% of field engineer openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be roles with a heavier reporting, design review, or project management component rather than hands-on technical fieldwork.
How can I get hired as a field engineer in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an internship or co-op tied to your engineering degree, which many large New York employers like Consolidated Edison and AECOM use to develop early-career talent directly into field roles. Lateral moves from roles like construction inspector, field technician, or CAD technician are another common route into field engineering. Earning your Engineer-in-Training credential through the New York State Education Department gives candidates without experience a concrete signal of readiness that hiring managers across the state recognize.
Where can I find and apply to field engineer jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to field engineer jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
