Engineering Supervisor Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering supervisor in New York?
Most engineering supervisor roles in New York require a Professional Engineer license issued by the New York State Education Department, which oversees engineering licensure through the Office of the Professions. Candidates typically complete an accredited engineering degree, accumulate qualifying experience under a licensed PE, and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering and Principles and Practice of Engineering exams. Senior supervisory roles at infrastructure agencies and utilities expect the PE as a baseline credential before promotion.
Which companies hire engineering supervisors in New York?
Employers hiring engineering supervisors in New York right now include Wolfspeed, Starbucks, and Toyota Material Handling, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of public-sector infrastructure agencies, large utilities, and international engineering and construction firms means supervisory openings arise continuously rather than in seasonal bursts.
Which New York cities have the most engineering supervisor jobs?
Marcy, Greene, and Auburn have the most engineering supervisor openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its scale of transit, utility, and commercial construction activity, while Buffalo draws engineering supervisors into manufacturing and energy transition projects, and Albany concentrates openings around state agency infrastructure programs and nearby industrial employers in the Capital Region.
Are there remote engineering supervisor jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. About 15% of engineering supervisor openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the hands-on, site-present nature of most supervisory engineering work. The portions of the role most suited to remote arrangements are design review, permitting coordination, and reporting tasks rather than field oversight or crew management.
How can I get hired as a engineering supervisor in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a field or project engineer role at a large New York construction, utilities, or transit employer, where you build the site management experience that supervisory promotions require. The MTA, Con Edison, and the New York City Department of Design and Construction run structured entry-level engineering programs that place new graduates into team environments with clear advancement tracks. Obtaining your Engineer-in-Training designation through the New York State Education Department while in these roles signals readiness for supervisory responsibility and meaningfully strengthens your candidacy.
Where can I find and apply to engineering supervisor jobs in New York?
