Product Design Engineer Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a product design engineer in Pennsylvania?
Most product design engineer roles in Pennsylvania require a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, or a closely related discipline. Pennsylvania does not require a state license to work as a product design engineer in private industry, but engineers who sign off on public-facing work may pursue licensure through the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. Building a portfolio of CAD work and hands-on design projects strengthens candidacy considerably.
Which companies hire product design engineers in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring product design engineers in Pennsylvania right now include Molex, Amphenol, and ITT, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of defense contractors, medical device firms, and precision manufacturers means that openings appear across a broad mix of large corporations and specialized mid-size companies.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most product design engineer jobs?
The cities with the most product design engineer openings in Pennsylvania are Harrisburg, Yocumtown, and Philadelphia. Philadelphia drives the largest share through its dense cluster of medical device, pharmaceutical, and defense-linked manufacturers, while Pittsburgh's advanced manufacturing and robotics sector supports strong demand, and the Lehigh Valley's established industrial base adds consistent volume across consumer and industrial product companies.
Are there remote product design engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're limited, since product design engineering typically involves hands-on work with prototypes, lab equipment, and manufacturing floors. About 40% of product design engineer openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to concentrate in the earlier concept and CAD modeling phases rather than testing or production-support roles.
How can I get hired as a product design engineer in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is targeting new-graduate rotational or associate engineer programs at large Pennsylvania manufacturers such as Siemens, Johnson and Johnson, or defense primes in the greater Philadelphia region. Applying for roles titled junior mechanical engineer, design technician, or product development associate opens doors while you build experience. A strong SolidWorks or Creo portfolio, even from coursework or personal projects, and a co-op completed through a Pennsylvania engineering school such as Penn State or Drexel gives a measurable edge.
Where can I find and apply to product design engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to product design engineer jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings from employers across the state. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
