CONSTRUCTION PRACTICE
Michael Baker International’s Construction Services staff supports clients by acting as their trusted on-site agent through all phases of construction, from pre-design to close-out, by providing qualified construction managers, inspectors, constructability reviewers, schedulers, estimators, and safety experts. As new technologies evolve throughout the construction industry, innovative ideas are required to maintain and deliver successful construction projects.
What We're Looking For:
Michael Baker is seeking a Senior Electrical Project Engineer to lead and oversee electrical design and engineering activities for substation and traction power projects supporting our client’s infrastructure. This role will provide technical leadership, design review, and coordination between design consultants, construction teams, and client representatives to ensure compliance with project requirements, standards, and schedules. The role may lead into construction management support and services as design oversight is completed and projects move to construction.
What You'll Do:
- Lead and manage electrical design oversight for substation and traction power systems associated with rail and transit infrastructure projects.
- Review and evaluate design drawings, specifications, reports, and calculations prepared by consultants and contractors.
- Ensure designs meet applicable SEPTA, Amtrak, NEC, IEEE, NFPA, and other relevant standards and codes.
- Coordinate closely with the client and internal project management to resolve technical design issues and maintain project alignment with operational and safety requirements.
- Support construction activities by addressing design questions, reviewing submittals, and providing technical guidance on electrical systems and interfaces.
- Oversee design deliverables, monitor progress against schedules, and report on engineering milestones and risks.
- Participate in field inspections, testing, and commissioning activities as required.
- Manage and mentor junior electrical engineers or designers as part of the project team.
- Provide input for project estimates, scopes of work, and design-phase schedules.
- Contribute to quality assurance and document control processes related to electrical engineering deliverables.
What You Need to Succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- 7+ years of experience in electrical engineering design and project oversight, with specific experience in traction power, rail, or transit substation systems.
- Working knowledge of power distribution, SCADA systems, relay protection, and grounding.
- Familiarity with rail/transit standards and rail/transit authority projects is highly desirable.
- Strong communication, coordination, and client management skills.
Compensation:
The approximate compensation range for this position is $110,000 - $160,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
