Construction Engineer Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a construction engineer in Pennsylvania?
Becoming a construction engineer in Pennsylvania starts with a bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or construction engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Graduates then pursue licensure through the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, which requires passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, gaining supervised experience, and then passing the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam to earn a Professional Engineer license.
How much do construction engineers make in Pennsylvania?
Construction engineers in Pennsylvania earn a median of about $97,850 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,930 for the lowest 10% to over $141,310 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire construction engineers in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring construction engineers in Pennsylvania right now include hyundai engineering, JGM, and QTS, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's active transportation, energy, and commercial construction markets mean a mix of large national firms with regional offices and local general contractors consistently post openings throughout the state.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most construction engineer jobs?
Philadelphia, Salem, and Moon Township are the Pennsylvania cities with the most construction engineer openings. Philadelphia leads because of its scale of commercial, infrastructure, and transit development, while Pittsburgh draws heavy hiring from energy, bridge rehabilitation, and industrial construction projects, and Allentown benefits from continued commercial and logistics corridor growth in the Lehigh Valley.
Are there remote construction engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're rare. Construction engineering is fundamentally a field-based role, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 0% of construction engineer openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to involve estimating, design review, or project controls work that does not require daily site presence.
How can I get hired as a construction engineer in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to co-op or internship programs run by large Pennsylvania-based firms like AECOM or PennDOT-contracted contractors during your final years of study, which frequently convert to full-time offers. Entry-level titles such as field engineer, construction inspector, or project engineer assistant are common starting points. Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam early and completing OSHA safety training gives candidates a clear edge over those without credentials.
Where can I find and apply to construction engineer jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to construction engineer jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings from employers actively hiring. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty and apply directly to each one.
